    Torn Between Classes to Main

    Hello ARR Forum!

I am torn between two classes, I can't decide which one to main! A little aid in helping me decide is all I request! I have an ilevel 91 monk that was my first level 50, I love this class dearly and am quite good at it (I use all abilities in my kit, dragonk rotation, followed by bootshine rotation). This class was my first love!

Alternately, I leveled a WHM (I had been a healer in WoW for the longest time) and really enjoy the versatility and just overall fun I have with this class. She is ilevel 90. It can be challenging sometimes (Titan HM) but I am naturally inclined towards the role. I have solo healed Circus Tower in a pinch (last night was a great example) when my secondary healer goes down repeatedly. This was my second class to 50, which of the two would you guys prefer on YOUR team? I just won a roll on an Unidentified Allagan Tomestone, and am torn on who should receive the Weathered Weapon first!

Thanks in advance for your input guys!

Both are difference role, so, why don't you play both?
As healer you may go as WHM and DPS as MNK. Still, you may find queuing as a healers will be much faster than DPSes. I would recommend you find a tank class and a range DPS class you like too.

Every DoW and DoM class is at least level 15 with me, GLA and MRD included. I find that I don't enjoy the tanking roles too much, they seem really slow-paced to me. As far as ranged DPS goes, BRD is my favourite, that class is level 31 for me. I have a DRG at level 30; I'm going for Blood for Blood in that class, and I do enjoy playing that one as well! No where near as much as my Monk though!

You can def. main both, getting a class to i90+ is pretty easy these days with no lockout. My main is WHM and I love it, now I have almost reached 50 with my SCH, which I enjoy a lot too, and I am already buying gear for the Summoner! After that, I'm gonna level MNK And I definitely plan on using at least those for endgame, because why not? It's one of the best things about this game.

I agree with you 100%! What other MMO lets one toon play all the classes? WoW certainly didn't! While I don't hate on other MMO's in the least, FFXIV is my absolute favourite because of the sheer number of things to do with one character......I don't feel the need to create an ALT!

My purpose for this thread initially was to make up my mind on what I should invest in first, as it stands, I don't see as many SCH as I see WHM, so kudos to you for having one! I only see a handful of MNK in endgame content, there are way more BRD, DRG, and SMR that I see out there. MNK can be an easy class to get lazy with; their kit is so dependant on positioning and maintaining GL stacks it's not funny. When I see a fellow MNK use DK rot followed by Bootshine rot all while maintaining proper positioning and DoT's, they get a comm from me! Definitely a keep you on yours toes class, being a healer, I think you will love it!

It's entirely your choice at the end of the day. Both Monk and White Mage are in demand for the end game (by which I mean Extreme Primals and Second Coil), so you have to ask yourself what job do you feel you are best at and, more importantly, which job is the most fun?

What I do suggest is once you make your decision, throw all your available resources (by which I mean Zodiac Weapon, Soldiery, Syrcus Tower gear and of course the unidentified allagan tomestone you picked up) on your chosen job. The reason being is that if you split between both jobs you'll end up being more of a bits-and-pieces player, and some of the harder content usually calls for job specialisation as opposed to generalisation.

^ Exactly the reply I was looking for.

Resources at end-game seem to be few and far between, each piece being a bit time-consuming to obtain (which is fine, it's to be expected; leveling in this game is not a grind for the most part). I have not dabbled too much in the Zodiac Weapons, but having the Unidentified Tomestone from Circus Tower, I am leaning towards MNK because it was my first love, and I am quite awesome (not being big headed here) at it. Thanks for your recommendation!

I have done all HM primals and Ultima as well as Thornmarch with the MNK, and I can survive all encounters relatively unscathed (unavoidable damage is still there, however). I am looking to get into Coil and Extreme Primals, so having someone with knowledge on the scope of endgame is really appreciated!

Along with everyone else, I see incredible value in having multiple jobs in different categories. I started as Bard, but after my first run through coil, I started a BLM. Bored with the long wait times for DF, I moved to CNJ and leveled WHM to 50. Needing a tank in the FC and with another party member doing WHM, I completed WAR. Since I'm balancing and not putting all my eggs in one basket, leveling multiple classes into the iLVL's past 90 means choosing who gets the cool stuff first. WHM=96 while the WAR and BRD are a lowly 93, which only a few weeks ago was still pretty darned high. I am now leveling an ARC since this gives me both another healer and DPS to play, so I'm already collecting and saving gear and atma stones for them as well. (BTW, all three mains have atma weapons, and I'm working on Animus for the WHM first. For some reason, they won't let me carry a book for more than one class at a time.)

I find that having a job in all 3 categories gives me a different perspective for each fight. It's like when I play guitar, bass or sing with a band. I know where the melody is going, how the the rhythm is played, and what the counter-melody are doing. What's really cool is that someone from my FC or any other FC can say, "We need a <healer or tank or DPS> for <name the fight>. Want to join us?" I apply the appropriate set and I'm on my way. If I'm looking for tomes or XP or gear, I can drop into PF and if there's something interesting going on, I'm there.

I'm biased because my main is white mage (and I hated leveling puglisit for bard), but the Yagrush is a very good Soldiery weapon, only behind an optimized Novus and High Allagan Crook. I'm not sure on the monk weapon.

^ Kudos on the ATMA, I simply don't have the patience for all that (there are other weapons out there). I don't complain about the system, because there are other methods, just not something I am interested in.

And in reiterating the usefulness of multiple classes, I know what you mean! Having my FC request a healer for example, I can say, "Got it, add me!" That does feel good to be able to support that! But for now, I really need to choose one to invest the limited resources in gearing up past the 90's!
