Since they did say to keep your melee DD gear around.
The keyword though is "melee". They literally used the word melee. STR affects physical melee damage.

It could have been a mistranslation. Could have meant physical DD gear(which would be mnk and brd gear primarily and drg(but that is armour basically)).
I see a lot of people in leviathan go: melee tail ranged head. That is just wrong. It's physical DD tail, magic DD head.
