Fun fact about Thavarian Onions (not fun)

In case there are others like me that didn't realize:

Feeding a Thavarian Onion to your chocobo during training at the sables does NOT instantly rank up your chocobo from 10 to 11. It increases the level CAP to 11. After the feeding you need to go level your chocobo to the new cap.

If you feed your chocobo another Thavarian Onion before hitting the new cap, your onion will be wasted and the cap will NOT increase.

Given that this means you're looking at a LOT of time between onion feedings for new cap increases I feel like only getting 1 onion per seed planting is kind of unfair, especially for large FC groups. With a small house it takes nearly 2 months to get one full bed of Thavarion Onions.

Keep in mind that you need an Onion for each level. This doesn't ease the problems. I can only hope that when they release personal Housing, that it will include a personal Garden as well.

Oh geeze, that sounds rough >< The grind continues lol

But yeah, if personal gardening doesn't come with personal housing, that would be pretty terrible. Gating these solely behind FC gardening would suck.

As always SE is calculating the time from what is possible for a 24/7 hardcore player.
It is possible to level 1.000.000+ Chocobo XP within one day but if you argue like that it will become out of reach for "normal" players...
Same calculations SE have done with housing prices and we all know what happened.

They just forget that it will sacrify the FUN in playing as we see on sightseeing log frustration!
And why they need that horrible timesink in the first place? Isnt the source the lack of content? Are they scared to run out of content before new been created?

Edit: Well, Chocobo leveling is something special, you can not do it while doing other stuff, you are locked out if you level your chocobo!

Sorry! I felt the info was very clear. The onions break level cap. You actually have to do the work of leveling them yourself. >.>' And yes, 1 onion is needed for each level.

    Straight from the patch notes.

"- Chocobo Level Cap For chocobos that have already attained the maximum rank, rewarding them with a Thavnairian onion following training will increase this upper limit by one. * Chocobo companions cannot exceed rank 20."

With emphasis on "That has already attained the maximum rank" and "increase the upper limit by one"

The last few levels to Rank 10 scaled up adding quite a bit of xp needed TNL. I imagine by Rank 19 you must need like 4 to 5 million xp to level up. I'm guessing there will be some sort of reward other than the additional barding down the line. Maybe a new achievement with item reward, or future perk for racing. Still, it's an insane amount of grinding for a bird that's really only going to be as good as a rank 10 chocobo, just with some added flexibility. Wouldn't surprise me to see them add the chocobo mask back in as a reward for hitting Rank 20.

I think the Choccobo will be of great use when fully levelled. You can then choose, according to your situation, whether you want to have a DPSing, tanking or healing Choccobo. I had mine levelled as DD formerly but made a reset and now my birdie is a Healer. But I miss the stun skill my old DD Choccobo had..it was really handy to have him interrupt AOE abilities here and there. But my healer birdie is on the other side a very nice healer actually and saved my ass more than one time while fighting Level 45+ mobs in heavy spirit bonding DOH/DOL gear lol. I am sure all trees have one or more nice spells you will miss when you don't have them. Waiting patiently for my own Garden so I can finally approach the Onions.

You get more than just flexibility due to the passive traits. Meaning your chocobos dps and hp will increase by quite a bit if you invest in all trees. If you set him to free stance he uses all of his skills too.

False. Each tree has a number of passive stat increases that make the choco stronger at all times. Not just when changing stances for flexibility. They do actually gain more HP, Acc, Crit rate, etc for each tree completed.
