If it were to be added, it should be a toggle on rather than a toggle off.

It would be awesome to be able to turn these on and off as we wanted. But, something I'd really enjoy as an RPer is a " . . . " bubble that lets me know when people are typing. So that I know to wait for them to post before I unintentionally roll all over them while RPing.
Sometimes, I don't realize how fast I go and my brain gets into a hyper-drive mode... I don't know if someone is trying to reply and I'm scaring them off by posting every few minutes or so, or they just have nothing to say back. :/

EDIT: Oh! What if we had buttons to press or toggle when we're about to begin typing? Perhaps it would work something like the /Eureka Emote? Something that would pop-up a " . . . " bubble to let others know they are about to reply! Of course, this is just coming from an RPer! >.<;

maybe a ... over their names, or over their like status icon, not really a bubble (now THAT would get cluttered)It would be awesome to be able to turn these on and off as we wanted. It'd be funny to be able to single out people in my raid that accidentally hit enter and are trying to do their rotation :P
Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how it'd be done or implemented. I'd just love to have some sort of feature for it, so that I know I'm not being an inconsiderate dodo, lol! I don't even really care how or where it gets placed in the HUD. I'm not all that picky.![]()
I rarely use says for anything. Why do I want chat bubbles?
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
I want chat bubbles because I rarely use say.
I want to use it more and actually talk with people in my mmo.
But it's hard to really notice the social aspect when it's sectioned off to the corner of my screen. :T
i am all for having chat bubbles. almost every MMORPG has them, why not this one?
1.) as others have said, they should be disabled by default. can't have any complaints there.
2.) only chat bubbles of any real use would be /say, /party and Friends. maybe even /fc too. Friends, because maybe you want to disable /say and/or another and still see Friends with chat bubbles.
3.) there could be a privacy option for /say. basically, even if someone else has their chat bubbles enabled they still wouldn't see yours. so you could make your chat bubbles exclusively visible to Friends only. don't need a privacy option for /party.
4.) Square Enix can impose a restriction on the amount of content allowed to be shown in the chat bubble. i would think maybe 2, at most 3 lines of text. this way we can still send as a chat bubble while using macros, but it will be more difficult for people to clutter our screen with garbage.
5.) i also really like the idea of having an indicator to see if someone is actually typing.
+1 for chat bubbles!

I remember the Phantasy Star Online and Universe series of games doing this but has any other MMO? I cant recall any at the moment that I played and I've played more of them than most people thought even existed. Though maybe what I'm thinking of as chat bubbles is different than what others are picturing?so instead of the chatbox, a perfectly good chatbox, a perfectly good chatbox similar to ffxi.
you want chat bubbles to pop up over people's heads so you can read where the chat came from cause its that important to you. because you have to be looking at that player. because you want to be scoping out their character. because you have to know where that player is standing at that very moment, whether it be near or far.
so when you have a dozen people around you all chatting. all you see is chat bubbles?
No.
