Given how much trouble it is to click, or even just see, stuff like Summoning Bells with just nameplates being the obstruction (besides character models), I'm willing to bet that chat bubbles would end up being a clickable portion of said player... meaning total blocking of everything it covers. Yeah, some games do it just fine, but I wouldn't put it past SE on this matter to ignore the annoyance it would bring here. Even if just optional, the functionality of it would be very limited due to potential hindrance it can cause in and out of combat for those who select it.

Okay, while we're at it, the Dev. Team can implement another 101 features that the majority will show they don't want. Who needs game content anyway?

I'm not personally against it; after all, the NPCs I walk by sometimes have some very funny things to say in their little bubbles. However, the logistics of it when PCs that move around and jump and emote and get into combat, sometimes all at the same time, are quite a bit more wonky, just looking at the way that they've been implemented for enemies in combat. I don't think it would actually work with players as it's already borderline impossible to read a lot of what those enemies are saying even while standing in place doing their opening flourishes in the moments before they attack, and it frustrates me constantly that some enemy text is copied to the chat log but most isn't. So they'll first need to fix that issue with the bobbing bubbles before they can let us players have them.

So long as I can turn off the bubbles so I'm not annoyed by them, I don't see a reason that people who DO want them can't have them. I personally find them incredibly annoying. Also, again with the "Immersion" word. How exactly does seeing a bubble of text over your character's head make you feel a deep mental involvement? If anything they'd make it feel less involved and more like a cheap comic strip or something.

    Just my two cents.

It was a numeric example of how I perceive the matter and those involved, not a statistic.
I'd be willing to bet money that more people don't want this than do, and the number of people who don't care in the slightest would be massive, if they cared enough to state it.
It would require more work than none.
This and that are 2 different(i'll admit similar) things.

It's basically because the chat bubble is coming from you if you say something. The person talking to you when you're around them will be able to just look at your character and have a face to face chat, in a way. Having no visual cues when you're chatting and having to constantly look away from who you're talking to doesn't feel right to some people. I think for some people it's like talking directly in real life with each other but the 'voice' doesn't come out of their mouths and instead you have to check your tablet on your hands to read what they're saying back and forth repeatedly instead of looking at their faces.

I think they're unnecessary myself. If it were something simple to implement and was easily toggled on and off, maybe. However, if it were going to take any significant amount of staff or resources... uhh... no. I'd rather they focused on more meaningful content if that were the case.

The task would be done by the UI department. I can't remember anything urgent at the moment that the UI devs have to work on, other than possibly the add-ons system that has been promised since way before launch, promised a couple patches after launch and hasn't come out since. If they're still not done working on it and isn't already on last testing phase, the question would be whether they ever actually worked on it instead. Didn't see people up in arms on that. Didn't really see people up in arms when SE worked on adding glamour bikinis when they have nothing to do with gameplay either.

"Meaningful" is subjective. I don't think Coil is meaningful, it's just scripted and unimaginative in my eyes, but I'm sure the part of the game I enjoy the most is meaningless to most players in this forum.
