People are being cruel to new players

This was my first MMORPG.. like... ever. So when I started, I had NO clue what people were talking about when they were speaking in lingo. My first few dungeons were a disaster, and it only made it worse when people were telling me what to do, using words that I didn't know.. and then getting mad when I wasn't doing it.
Obviously I picked it up and started getting better. But now I go into a dungeon and there'll be a newbie and they're terrible at their job, the first thing i do when someone starts getting irritated and demanding that they generate more enmity, is break it down for them. MAYBE they don't know what that means and why they need to do so.. because playing the game solo you don't need to worry about ANY of that.

My first time tanking was so horrible and the people were SO mean that I almost cried. And I'm still scared to play dungeons as a gladiator, even though I know what to do now.

Try to be helpful rather than hurtful.

If you don't understand what they are saying why didn't you tell them to explain ?

Because I play on ps4. I didn't have a keyboard at the time. Which made it worse, because they thought I couldn't see what they were writing.. Plus they weren't waiting for me when I did try to type out a message via the in-game keyboard, they just kept going.

I've actually found the opposite. I haven't had anything rude done or anything like that. I only played one other MMO and it was pretty different from this one. I've done pretty well in my Class though. Could be why I haven't had any mean people. Everyone seems nice though

Might be harsh, but if you are that new to MMOs, than tank really wasn't the best thing to go for. Maybe play through to 50 1st time on DPS, it's pretty easy and u can pick up everything u need to know along the way. As tank, you are the only tank and people sadly will expect you to know your roles, but as dps it's a lot more forgiving as the whole party contributes to dps and damage checks are pretty relaxed in the early stages of the game while tanking does actually take a rather steep step up once you reach brayflox longstop. Especially on Gladiator as you don't have shield oath until 40.

Yep, just had this issue with a friend of mine that just started playing. I spoke about it here (because I'm not gonna repost the whole thing again):

People are rude and inconsiderate, they need to chill and stop assuming. All of us were new at one point, trying to figure things out. We were no better at that point, then new players are now.

OP, I have a FC I started that has the sole focus of assisting new players and newcomers to the genre. I have kids of my own that play with me and a wife who is very new to gaming in general and I love helping people out. Unfortunately I'm on a different server or I would totally send you an invite. i just wanted you yo know that not everyone is like that. Maybe start each dungeon with a little quip "I'm new to MMO's so I may ask a lot of questions. Please bare with me!" That way others will know to be a little more patient with you or it will give them the opportunity to leave if they choose to.

I hope you stick with it because it is a fun game and you will meet more people on your journey that will help make it memorable, in a good way.

It's kinda sad but people aren't nice to new people no matter what MMO you play.

You need to get a keyboard. Being able to communicate with your party is a pretty big deal and will cause you to be at a worse and worse disadvantage the farther along in the content you get.

"Listen but closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."
