    Watching cutscenes = AFK?

    I can't believe the nerve of people initiating vote to dismiss just because an admittedly first-timer dares to wish to watch the cutscenes in a story instance in a random DF. I didn't know experiencing (or wanting to experience) the game as intended, for the first time, living the dramaturgy and the atmosphere of the story, constitutes to an AFK "reason" to initiate a vote. Not once, not twice, but four or fifth times just because it doesn't go through the first time. And enough people voting with yes for it to actually go through.

    The poor guy didn't even do anything bad - playing his role well enough as a matter of fact when he could actually catch up. As if the rush in itself isn't confusing (and thus discouraging) enough, now new players aren't even allowed to enjoy anything at all, because some jerk of a tank hasn't heard of patience?

    Sorry, not sorry - some players really just disgust me.

    Yeah, crap like this has been going on for months... I at least have an experience where the speed runner gets kicked.

    Last time I did Praetorium there were at least two new people, two DPS who explicitly said they were new. Both tanks wanted to speed run, the not new DPS wanted to speed run, and the other healer and I wanted to let the new people enjoy the cutscenes. What do we do?

    Kick windows comes up for the new people, surprisingly they don't go through. Tanks press on and warp through, as do the veteran DPS'. The other healer and I stick back as to heal because the new people didn't know about skipping the mobs (how would they?). They get through after being told to, the other healer gets through, but I can't since I'm getting attacked (holy spam xD). I die. Suddenly the other healer says something like "don't kick the healer." I assume that means kick window came up for me. I catch up.

    First boss: impatient tanks run in and kill the boss while the new people were in cutscene. One tank was consistently being a douche (the other mostly silent), someone initiated a votekick for the actively harassing tank and he surprisingly gets booted. Rest of the run we let the new people watch cutscenes.

    Wouldn't they lose the 100 myth for new people , making it less efficient if they kick the new person?

    Yes, they do. Because myth rewards now dynamically change ever since a recent patch.

    My party had to vote kick a non-new Arcanist who would never change to emerald carbuncle (In sastasha mind you), even after telling him to 10+ Times and actually showing him the move with my Summoner, and using auto-translate. They would never reply until they died the first time, and only used say chat to sling expletives because we let them die. They were like, level 20~22 or so with white-named non-HQ hooded dual-part gear. The tank didn't have shield lob either, because they didn't do their GLA Questline. After we vote kicked them, an Archer came, and the dungeon gave us the new player message when they did join, unlike the ACN.

    I got locked out of the hullbreaker Island boss on my first run, two days after it came out because I was watching the thirty-second cutscene before the fight. People are impatient jackasses, and unfortunately, no number of forum posts is going to change it.

    What I don't get is why people who want to rush are even running the cutscene-heavy dungeons anymore, unless it's to troll newbies and people trying to replay for the story...

    The developers are also trying to make dungeons have gimmicks and mechanics to force players to not speed run as much as possible. (Fire walls in Stone Vigil Hard. Sifaka Killing in Hullbreaker, etc.) I'm glad they're doing this, but I've since hung up my tank gear completely, in hopes they'll add a magic tank class in the future that I can get into. I'm not a fan of close up tanks. (Nor am I fan of stat-based tanks, such as EVA and Dodge Tanks.)

    I was surprised Square added the vote-kick feature to begin with; the abuse new players had to suffer through beforehand has only been increased with this feature.

    Honestly, I pray Square learns from all of this and never makes the mistake of adding cutscenes to dungeons again. New players deserve to play the story unharassed, and even though a GM can punish a player after the fact, the only way to guarantee this is to put cutscenes in content that a player can do alone, on their own time.

    They have an engine-side component that disallows certain interactions with players who are watching cutscenes, (IE: Stoneskin, cure, etc.) so it couldn't be too hard to have a system in place to disallow players from being kicked while watching cutscenes.

    And I'm very greatful for that! I like quick, efficient runs, but speed runs are usually neither of those things. Though it CAN be funny to let a DF tank die when he tries to pull half an instance without telling me...
