We don't need an AH as such, with bidding and the like.

Most people refer to any market with the word AH. Most of them don't care a bit wether we can have actual auctions or not, the only really wanted option being the buyout anyway

How is that what you just described not an AH? AH in XI works exactly the same way. In some cases like in Jeuno there's not even a physical counter from which you can open the AH menu just an NPC. But because XIV NPCs load a LOT slower than in XI I'd be happy if there's just the current menu and no NPC that you need to see before accessing the buying menu.

This is maybe OT but those counters at Hamlets look exactly like XI AH counters...

It's not an AH because there are no auctions in the system I described. No auctions means no auction house.
