With guild leve bonuses and the stupid amount of sp you get off quests (got 19,000 off one) you can hit 20 in a few hours pretty dam fast in my opinion heck even a casual can do thisNot everyone levels "that damn fast", so it's not pointless at all.
I'm back in-game for about two weeks now, and my highest rank is still 14. Why? I spend a lot of time exploring, crafting, goofing around, etc.
I ended up crafting my own gear, and am going to be crafting additional gear going forward (for myself and other lower level/newer players).. However, if I was able to find a good set of gear for my level at a reasonable price, I would have certainly bought them. As it is, I still need jewelry but last time I checked, prices on that was beyond stupid as well.

Whether or not you "can" is not the point... The point is.. not everyone does. Different people play at different paces.
Like I said, I'm back in game for 2 weeks now and I'm only just Phys. level 14. Not because I "couldn't get to 20 faster", but because I'm simply not compelled to. There's a mix of things I enjoy doing that don't involve "leveling to 20 in a few hours".
Hell, I just spent the last couple hours in-game standing around in Ul'dah chatting with my LS. It was a lot of fun. Was checking out people's armor, etc.
And anyway... I really don't understand the down-side of someone wanting to sell low-level gear that's affordable for newer players. You, however, seem to have something against it... and I'm not sure why.

oh yeah, the lower ones give less, thats really obvious
but the higher you go the more you get, thats a fact, youll see when you get up there
also note at lower ranks you need less to rank up...so of course itl give you less as a reward

That ~19k SP quest is only valid for rank30+ classes, If you finish that quest on any class under 30, you get less SP, on the range of about 900 SP if you're about rank10. The SP rewards for quests are listed as the MAXIMUM SP available if you meet the Optimal condition (class and rank level). If it's like gear, it gets cut in half immediately if you're the wrong class, and decreases proportional to your rank difference if lower ranked. At rank30, you need 38k? SP to gain a rank, so that quest only gives half of the SP required to rank up at best. And it's a one-time quest for the main storyline, so you can only get that on a single class.
