I'm not sure if there are many who believe that the phase of the moon has anything to do with fishing, although I'm sure there are those out there who do. I don't think anything has actually sat down and figured out if it does. As for checking the phase of the moon, the best I can suggest is to look for the moon, right between 6 to 7 pm, in the east, with clear or fair skies. Maybe this is a project you might be willing to tackle?

To my knowledge, there is no impact of lunar phase on fishing.

There are certainly no fish that are tied to it (although it's worth noting fish can be conditional on Time and/or Weather). It may have some hidden effect on fishing success rates, but I doubt it (and if so I've certainly never heard anything)

Nope - moon phases were implemented in FFXI fishing. In FFXIV it's the weather and time of the day.

Not really.

Only 2x S rank hunt mobs (Mindflayer and Croakadile) depend on New and Full moon respectively to spawn.

Moon phase has a direct effect on fishing, however it varies from player to player based on how they set their height slider at character creation. If you set to minimum height, New Moon provides the best fishing results, 25% would be waxing half-moon, 50% would be Full Moon, 75% is waning half-moon, maximum height takes you almost but not quite back to New Moon, and all the spaces in-between correspond for the other various gradient heights. Fishing at the moon phase that best corresponds to your height will provide an enormous boost in finding and successfully reeling in rare and HQ fish.
