If you "read" the class quest storyline and do guildhest and "reading" what you are supposed to do, and read the description of your job abilities and what it does, it would be a bit more easier to know "what you are supposed to do". Most players will be a bit over the minimum level requirement when they do their first dungeon. Also the game bend over backward and forward to "explain everything", spoon feed you, hand hold you, and pretty much "bashed it in" over your head with "what your role is" via the class quest. Obviously if people keep pressing escape and skip CS and not bother to read, not much you can do. And yes, get USB keyboard, it is non negotiable for this game.

I can relate. This was my first MMO as well, and I naively chose to play a tank at launch as well. Thought I was doing just fine because I wasn't having any issues with the story quests and only ventured into dungeons when the story required it. Folks forget that dungeons are completely different than solo play, especially as a tank. I had no idea what aggro entailed, as 99% of my solo play time to that point didn't involve it. I absolutely dreaded any time the story required a dungeon because I didn't have a clue what on earth people were talking about most of the time. I actually unsubscribed for four months after a particularly bad experience tanking Haukke (DPS were pulling every mob then cursing at me when I struggled to get aggro back immediately). Resubbed on a whim a few months later as DPS and have had a blast, but my first experience nearly drove me away from the game for good.

TL: DR - Just be nice to people. Some of them are not only new to a particular class, but new to the entire MMO genre as well.

I was in the same position when I started this game as well. Mine may have been worse, because I deliberately turned off all chat because I thought I would be able to play the entire game solo and thought the messages i was getting were all spam. I'm sure I caused plenty of headaches up until Brayflox Normal when I finally realized why the party chat notifications kept going off xD

Like everyone else said, get a keyboard. Makes this game 1000000000x better.

Also, haters gonna hate. Don't worry about them, do your thing. And find an LS or FC that is reliable that you feel comfortable asking questions to.

Regardless of whether or not you suck at this or not, people should always be nice to you, no matter what. There's no excuse for that kind of nonsense.

I just wanna say in general: Yes the story helps players learn, yes there are tutorials, videos, outlines etc that can help a player. My friend used these and they helped, these are all good things to help people out and let them know. Give advice!

But there is no good reason to be rude to a new player, or for that matter any player, in a dungeon.

If people don't want the stress of dealing with new players then don't do the low level dungeons. Personally, I love going into a low level dungeon, helping them out and getting though it and know that maybe they are a bit better and more confident in their class because of me.

If you don't let them know that you're new, you can't call them cruel, from their POV you could have been a troll for all they knew. I agree, some people are blatant asses to newbies, but there are a ton of people that go above and beyond to help new people.

After a half an hour in queue, trying to level my Alt and get her through the story line, I got my queue for Titan normal. We had a new healer and taught them the whole fight. Explained every mechanic. They still couldn't do it. We ran out of time and they did not progress at all despite us all being very patient with them. Then I had to get right back in the queue for another half an hour. Was that fair to me? I certainly don't think so.

Our jobs are our responsibility, and us being ignorant to our responsibilities as a tank, dps or healer are not an excuse. I know that its hard to accept, but it sounds like they did try to explain things to you, even if just a little, and you should be grateful for that much, specially since you didn't do anything to let them know that you could not understand.

My first experiences as a tank were bad too. I never wanted to tank but picked it up to help my FC mates so that they could enjoy DPSing (since they always had to tank or heal with me around.) I was lv 50 as two DPS by that point, had my relic weapons, experienced a lot of good and bad in the game. I did cry when I failed in my dungeon runs, but at the end of the day that was my fault, not my teams fault. I got better, I understood my job more, and I even have my tank relic now. Failing made me better, it hurt, but it was a lesson learned.

You wont have any idea till you are told honestly. But once told you should be able to figure out for yourself if you can handle that role without much info. Some people have latent talents for picking things up quickly. You aren't one of those people, next best thought should have been to use google or try another class.

Aside from that, if you are new always state it. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to type it out with the in-game keyboard. Get it done, the people in a rush will leave and the nicer ones will help simple as that.

Everyone is nice when you play correctly 'to their standards'

Just check Syrcus Tower. No one talk to each other. not at all. Then, try to wipe once! (Even if it's not your fault ^^) You'll see the chat being more animated than in Mor Dhona. And not in good terms.

Some people catch the game mechanics quickly, others don't. doesn't mean they are bad, they just need a bit more time.

It then comes to the other side: impatient ones. Those that can't accept Dying and wiping, as long as there is a Timer left, you are still ok.

Nah. They want to get in, get their tomes and loot quickly, and get out.

They miss the point. Not sure if SE intended to do it this way, but to take your time and truly enjoy the instances, it's pretty non-existent.

If someone is new, it's their job to let the rest know. If you are playing on PS4 hoping not to answer when someone talks to you, it's your choice. But a simple 10$ Keyboard can do the trick. You can even make a macro at the start, even if you are not new: Hello! I'm playing on PS4, so my typing might be limited, thank you for understanding.

    Simple.

Still, yeah the community is not the most welcoming i'd say.

If you want to take it slow and enjoy, come say hello on Gilgamesh

    Good luck.

By you failing one of the more important roles in early stage dungeons you ruin the other party members experiences. The simple fact is, tank is not for the newcomers, nor is healer. You should play as dps for the first run through. HIGHLY SUGGESTED, it'll be a better experience for you. A bad tank is a much bigger handicap than a bad dps. Otherwise you have to look at the picture as a whole. Im pretty sure you drove a car before, remember that time you got mad at the guy/girl slowing you down?

Shameless self promotion here but if they're any new people starting on the Phoenix sever myself and my partner run an FC purely for new players that give help/guidance with anything in the game. You don't need to stay with the FC or even join it. We're just two people willing to get new people into the swing of things

Back on topic though, the best advice i can give you is try and make friends with other new players so you can help each other out and run dungeons together, or join a decent FC as the chances are people will be willing to help you. This community really needs a kick in the butt and reminding that this is a game that's way more fun if people are kind to one another.
