    1.0 Reminiscing

This isn't really a suggestion thread or anything of the sort. Tried to find a similar thread relating to this, but I haven't, so, I'd like to create one.

Lately, I've been looking through some 1.0 screenshots and kind of thought about what moments I've missed. One topic on this forum also inspired me to create this. With that being said, share your memories people!

Here are a few of mine:

    - Missing the awesome teamwork aspect of Skirmish. Was funny to also run around in circles in order to kite when the party is half dead.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmsr5g6VlNQ

    - When dodos not only burped, but also farted and vomited on you. I know, odd, but funny.

    - Miss when events, like the Moonfire Faire, had more depth in content. You could get in a group and dance to kill bombs to get the events completed. (Plus seeing a Firedance version of Hildibrand was pretty cool)

    - When exploring the beauty of the world, it was a challenge to do so. Passing by level 70 + mobs makes sight seeing all the more worth it (Yes, the textures seemed copy and pasted, but there were some pretty cool formations out there).

I mostly just miss the old Uematsu 1.0 soundtrack, especially such tracks as Navigator's Glory, Born of the Boughs, The Forest's Pulse, On Windy Meadows, Twilight Over Thanalan, The Seventh Gate, Widdershins, Tears for Mor Dhona, and Piece of Mind. (Yes I know ARR reuses a lot of 1.0 tracks, but there's a whole heap of tracks that haven't returned that I really miss.)

The old GUI style artwork and fonts I also miss too - they actually fitted the setting, where as ARR's fonts seem a little too FFXIII-inspired/high-tech for me (although I do not miss the terrible lag with the interface, especially that stupid slide-out FFXI-holdover side menu. I'm glad that's gone).

And the Path Companions. I miss my sultry bisexual miqo'te GLA.

For that matter, I miss the whole Path of the Twelve itself - I think they were a far more interesting and functional organization compared to their successor in ARR the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Tataru for one wasn't portrayed as a ditzy airhead needing to be rescued all the time.

And speaking of the Path, I really miss how the Echo was portrayed in 1.0 - how it was far more interactive and that there was often even battle scenes within the Echo. It just made it seem much more interesting (in ARR it's just a buff and a way of showing flashback scenes rendered like a grainy old VHS video).

I too miss my Path Companion. I forget what I named her since its been so long, but she reminded me a lot of Shantotto due to her speech patterns. Whereas Shantotto rhymes all the time, my path companion used tons of alliteration.

And, generally, I miss all of the 1.0 storyline- both Path of the Twelve story and the Grand Company storyline. I remember that the very last Path of the Twelve storyline had my Path Companion and the Students of Baldesion preparing to fight Gaius van Baelser in Mor Dhona, and then... nothing. I've been wondering if they just dropped that whole plot link from the canon.

By the way, Uematsu's soundtrack for 1.0 gave the game a far different feeling. "Twilight over Thanalan" is so very calming. Thanalan in 1.0 was huge and very sparse of flora, and that song did an excellent job complimenting that. Every song related to Limsa Lominsa was tremendously adventurous, and Gridania was very provocative by giving an aura of both the forest and of uneasiness.

Yeah Nobuo Uematsu soundtrack was awesome, I really hope they add it in for some stuff later, it shouldn't be wasted.

I miss the Kadomatsu from hell. As I approached it, my gpu would start ramping up the fans and the fps would drop to around 15.

The weighted animations owned. Run at full speed and suddenly stop? Your character "slows down" like you would IRL.

    -High res textures
    -Stunning animation
-The lighting effect when going from a dark place to a light one
-Art direction centered around natural material and practical gear. Basically less neon, more class and sophistication
-Glow effects on lights that didn't look like colorful grease stains
    -Far more interesting monster behavior
-Being able to buy skill bonuses
    -Elemental wheel
    -More varying stats
-Dungeon like areas that didn't require you to group up in a timed instance, you could just go there
    -Danger
-Corethas being a beautiful spring alps mystery land

That's all I can think of right now from the top of my head.

Definitely all of the above. I'll add:
-Fantastic music that we only partially kept.
-Natural fonts and UI design that actually fits an RPG rather than the overly flashy nonsense we have no.
-Map design that didn't have every single POI five steps from each other.
