Who tends to miss party invites and/or trade requests when there's naught but these small flashing icons on the top of the screen warning me?
Because it hasn't happened once that the person sending me an invite didn't have to actually tell me.

I miss them all the time also.
I wish there was some sort of chime when an actionable event pops up there so that it draws my attention to it. You know, like a little ding sound.
Or at least make it flash.
SOMETHING to pull my attention away from whatever i am doing at the time..
we need a bigger icon , most ppl mute ffxiv sound completely.

if people said they invited you then you wont miss it.
A sound effect, or maybe a small pop up window with the "accept" or "deny" options (heck, why not both?). Pretty much all MMORPGs have those, and I find them pretty handy. Sure, they can get a little bit irritating if people keep sending you invites, but I would rather know when I am being asked for something. :/
This may be from simply playing FFXI too long, but I find inviting someone without them telling you why is improper. Of course even when someone tells me they're going to invite me I still tend to miss it as the icon is indeed small and out of the way.
I would love an optional chime.
You don't need a reason to help someone~
I see no reason for them not to impliment some kind of chime or ding. Failing that, why not something in the chat window? "xyz has invited you to a party" in a coloured text would be very helpful and eye catching
Even with people telling me they are going to invite me, I still miss an invite from time to time... A chime would be great! but I disagree with a pop-up window, it would piss me off to have a window pop up when I'm in the middle of fighting lol
You can't invite or trade someone in combat/instance.

Ah very true, I didn't think about that lol
even so, it would still annoy me to have something pop up in my face every time I get a party invite, a chime would be very nice however and I'd immediately notice the invite.
