    Frame Rate Affects Physics

This is more or less being posted in response to this thread:

Camera/Character is Shaking (Click to view.)

Rather, I would post there had it not been locked.

I'd like to point this part out in a post by Zozef:

"I've found that if you limit your FPS via FRAPS or any other method to about 30, it stops or becomes hardly noticeable. (But why play like this?) Based on my research I've come to the conclusion the problem plagues higher-end systems, as people with mediocre ones don't experience it. (Which relates into limiting the FPS)"

Before finding that thread I had tried to use Fraps to record the volatile movements, however they mostly went away along with my FPS. In fact, I am reminded of the very first time I got into the game world. I was running and stopping, doing a short warp inside that ship you start in if you choose Limsa Lominsa, and it kept happening, but the moment I try to record it it wouldn't happen anymore. I believe this to be more of a rare instance. There's also the rare shakiness with purely horizontal movement. It isn't only up/down as posted in that thread.

    Anyway, to the point now...

Why is this so much less noticeable with a lower frame rate?

Earlier I found out that the physics are affected by the frame rate. I don't know if this is really even relevant. I like to think I'm fairly good with computers, however my knowledge on technical stuff such as this is pretty much nonexistent, so you can tear this post up all you want if you know better. But I think FPS affecting physics is very strange. (Could it be intentional?)

    Here's what I did.

I was doing standard synthesis with a Lalafell as a tanner/leatherworker wearing starting pugilist gear (and some other stuff not related to what I'm going to say). The bottom back part of the clothing and belt were shaking crazily. I saw the pack on the back of the belt swinging wildly and thought it was pretty funny, so I decided to record it. It swung, but not as wildly.

Seeing as how this and that wild shaking of character and camera are reduced by the same thing (lower FPS), I believe these to be related.

I think it's an issue with the physics engine.

    ISP: -
    Type of Internet Connection: Wireless
Internet Connection Speed: Varies, but hangs around 65 Mbps
    Date & Time: Various
Frequency: Horizontal: Rarely; Rising: Uncommon; Falling: Common
    Character Name: Maki Amiyuki
    Race: Lalafell
    World: Besaid
    Class/Skill Rank: Various
    Physical Level: Grinding higher! (Irrelevant)
    Area and Coordinates: Everywhere
    Party or Solo: Both

So is this a bug or are physics supposed to be altered at different frame rates?

Edit: I'm noticing that the position of the camera plays a part in the shaking.

Fantastic troubleshooting. This is something that has bothered me since day 1 with XIV.
