I'm surprised that different races don't have different weapon stances like they did in FFXI:

PS3 Limitations.
I don't know if we can blame Sony's system for holding back the game this time. We'd have to know how far Square is pushing the game on the PS3. But yes, I would love to see individual battle stances. I loved the Elvaan animation for casting white magic, black magic and the Dragon Kick weapon skill. But when summoning - he looked he was taking a sh*t. And don't get me started on dancing.
But Elvaan male had a wicked great katana stance where as my mithra looked like she was holding a baseball bat.I don't know if we can blame Sony's system for holding back the game this time. And also, FFXI was on PS2 so a PS3 should not be hindering it.
It's got nothing to do with limitations and all to do with development time.
FFXI's animations were hand-crafted and the only special animations they had to worry about were for weapon skills and a few instant moves that had shared animations + floating effects.
FFXIV's animations are motion-capped and share animations between races. To make race-unique neutral battle stances that varied that much, they would also have to adjust the transitions into every special attack move or else chaining attacks would look weird. If they add animations, all they have to do is make sure that one battle animation set is flawless. If they add new races, all they would have to do is make sure the animation skeletons line up, rather than craft all that from scratch.
FFXIV system lets them add animations more easily and makes adding new races not a gigantic pain in the arse. They can add 10 animations for everyone in the same span of time it takes to add 1 animation for each race/gender. Don't get me wrong, unique battle stances would be cool but... I'd rather have flashy animations for all.
We learn fighting in specific guild, if you wield a spear you only learn that in gridania, swordfigthing is only learned in the ul'da Gladiator guild,... and all of us have the same masters (as Long as we have the same class) wouldn't it be weird if every race would have a different stance while learning the same style under the same master?I'm surprised that different races don't have different weapon stances like they did in FFXI:

Beat me to it, exactly how I always passed it off.We learn fighting in specific guild, if you wield a spear you only learn that in gridania, swordfigthing is only learned in the ul'da Gladiator guild,... and all of us have the same masters (as Long as we have the same class) wouldn't it be weird if every race would have a different stance while learning the same style under the same master?
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
Hahahahaha. ERm... what was I thinking... oh... how would the different races hold a bow... Really can't imagine different stances for some weapons. Other than giving us a lefty/righty option(which would be nice).
All joking aside, it would be nice to see some variety between the models.
