    [Suggestion] New Preference Targeting System

Please allow us a way to have the traditional targeting system and be able to turn this new targeting system on and off.

As a player with a controller I cannot play with it anymore. I use down arrow to target myself for a base or starting target, when I maneuver through party members, which also changes the targeting preference. I spend more time trying to fix it than I do taking care of my party. If I use a side button to get my base target I never know what party member or mob I am going to get and it slows me down.

So a toggle off switch would be great!

    Thank you!

This target system is very good...just poorly made ^^:

    I'd improve it this way:

Split it into up/down target mode and left/right target mode. You can set them both the way you want (like friendly at up/down and enemy at left/right) and have it locked this way (the main problem of current one is targeting self and mistakenly changing mode during battle, when trying to change monster).

To change the modes, i'd use the same idea used for camera zoom, making player hold the auto-run button and then pressing up/down to change up/down mode and left/right to change left/right mode. This way thee would be no risk of mistakenly changing modes midfight and would allow players that don't like this system to just leave them both as All (default) so it would work exactly as it did before the change.

    Suggestion on targeting:

When I have cure/sacrifice as the spell I'm trying to cast.... can I please use f1-f4/f8 to target my party members? This is ridiculous. I've actually seen my tank die because I couldn't target him. There were too many people/mobs around to try and click on him. I finally remembered that I can click on his name in my party window, but would it be so hard to use the f1-f8 keys?

It has good potential. but I believe they need to make it where you must HOLD DOWN auto run button, and then press Up and Down to toggle targets. Kinda the same way you do when you zoom in and out with camera on controller. "HOLD DOWN auto run button, and then right analog" for me.

just a suggestion.. would love to see this added..

After selecting cures, buffs and status removal spells from the action bar. You get to toggle aoe and select the sub target for the spell. Currently left/right on the dpad will select from all available targets on screen and up/down does nothing. If you could make it so that up/down on the dpad targeted party members scrolling the party list. This would solve all of my party based targeting problems. I could leave main target set to enemy and the subtarget for the spell would allow me to do everything else.

I have to second the issues that Eclipse is having! I play almost 100% using the gamepad. It takes way too long for me to try to target the correct party member using left & right in Select Party Mode, if the party member is even on screen. If they aren't on screen, then I'm out of luck, because I can't select them at all. This new targeting system has been an absolutely horrendous experience so far, especially if I'm switching between nuking and healing.

I definatly struggle with using character selection keys to target team mates for battle. I missing being able to be engaged with an enemy target, and hitting F3 ALT+1 macro to quickly cure the 3rd player in the party. Currently F3 does nothing when your using an action, and I have not been able to put a full players name in a macro for the target and get it to work yet either.

I agree with dividing it out and implementing a "hold auto-run" method.

I can see how the current method can be advantageous for some but I played for 6 years in XI on a controller and I'm used to that system. I would also like if, when targeting my party menu via controller, that it actually went in a logical order up and down through the party menu. As it used to be in XIV, it would target the nearest party member if you pressed up or down and not the next person in the list. That was incredibly frustrating.

Having the option to turn the new system off or better yet, the other suggestion of dividing left/right and up/down associations for targeting would be incredibly more comforting than the current system.

In regards to targeting, it's definitely on the right track, the last targeting update did make it easier to differentiate between players and mobs, if that can be expanded on to say target the same mob as the leader for example, that would be great.
