    Why no parties

    Just started last week if there are no parties what's the point of this being a mmo ? I used to play 11 was looking forward to the interaction between other players and there is none does this ever change ?I'm at level 17 now thank you for your thoughts

    Old-school FFXI-style exp parties are regarded as being a thing of the past, and that 'content based exp' (using Yoshi-P's own words) is the way of things now. Personally I like being able to level at my own pace through different ways such as FATEs and the Hunting Log, as I always regarded 'dooms parties' in FFXI as nothing but a chore.

    However, a lot of people like exp parties for the social aspect such as yourself, so party based exp is not necessarily 'wrong' either, it's just another way of doing things. And having said that though, there are still parties in FFXIV, just not ones camping somewhere in the overworld and pulling mobs ad nasum. Here parties usually run dungeons (which are instanced), or go hunting Hunt NMs and FATEs.

    Of course there is nothing stopping anyone forming an old-style exp party though, but due to game mechanics where not only will everything link on you if you're in a party and enemies being 'leashed' (that is, if they agro they will actually deagro you if you try running away from them after a certain distance), exp gain for enemies over ten levels more than your current level will just be the same as a monster of equivalent level for you making an FFXI-style exp party rather pointless anyway.

    How do you go about starting a hunting party or a dungeon run the social aspect is the point of mmo's

    FFXIV is designed as a pure themepark (Aka like WoW). With this style of game levels are gained by doing content.

    The open world is for solo content. Fates, Quest, Leves, Logs. (Content designed for you to be able to do by yourself)

    Instances are for groups. 4-8 man dungeons, 8 man instanced boss fights (Coils/Primals), Behest, Crystal Towers (Content designed to be done in groups)


    Only group base open world arguably is hunt. But that is just people zerging so no real group coordination like in XI. HUnts just force you to group to get full credit.

    Unfortunatly the 2nd poster is correct. Yoshida views XP partys as a thing of the past, which in my opinion is a horrible view and yes the social aspect takes a major hit. They feel that the current model is better then the old. And it is the core design of XIV. Openworld Party Leveling has no place in this game, and unless they replace yoshida (Not going to happen considering the millions this game is pulling in) it will not change.

    And a hint. Most people on this forum and the devs themself consider XI to be a mediocre game to a bad game. So words of advice do not expect XI. This game is the polar opposite of XI. IF you ever played WoW that is the style game to expect leveling at and endgame. Just without the large groups.

    You could still level at your own pace you just party with people your level I think it takes from the whole playing experience I want to play this game but to pay a monthly fee for a game that doesn't need to be an mmo I'm not sure about

    You can party with people your level. But you get less xp then soloing quest, far less then doing fates, and it is a joke compaired to spaming dungeons. Example: mob in dungeon = 800-1000xp, in open world 98xp.

    As for playing this game. I suggest giving it a try to at least the mid 30s. Alot is still not unlocked at low levels. But if you are not really having fun at 30 nothing much else changes late game. Harder fights, some larger scale content but in the end it is not much different.

    Makes no sense no need at all for this to be mmo yoshida needs to go you could just have lobbies for dungeon runs and not charge a monthly fee and 11 was way more fun thus making it better than this one I'm so disappointed

    Thru quest sum are main line sum are side quest for ur level range Sastash and Tam Tara deepcroft the quest for Sastasha main story quest It's Probably Pirates Speak with Baderon on the Upper Decks in Limsa at X11-Y11 cant get the quest unless u completed Call of the Sea quest. Tam Tara It is unlocked by the main storyline quest Fire in the Gloom This quest is available after finishing Call of the Forest. Speak with Miounne in New Gridania at X11-Y13.If u cant get the quest then u havent progressed thru the main story enough yet
