Not exactly related to FF14, but...

I am quite a recent fan of the Final Fantasy series. I wasn't able to enjoy the older ones because my family didn't have the money for the older consoles, till I bought a PS3 with my own money when I grew older. I'm sure many of you will freak out if you hear this but my first Final Fantasy was FF13, and I enjoyed it a lot. I then got curious about the series and bought a PSP just to play Crisis Core. And from there, I watched Advent Children and then tried FF7. Till date, I have played (not just the main title) FF7, FF8, FF10 (the HD remaster one) and FF13 (and of course FF14 AAR).

So, I have always heard how the other FF games are awesome, but it's not exactly easy to find them. I then saw some FF games on android and wondered, would it be worth it to buy them on android or can I find some PC versions of them?

I can't really vouch for mobile version as I never tried them, but you should try the ones released on vita (digital downloads from PS1/PS2/PSP library), and the ones on 3DS.

III and IV's mobile versions are ports of the 3DS one, and you can find III on steam as well. The other mobile versions are probably ports (or at least close to) the GBA/PSP versions which was what I played and they are ok, but they are quite different from what you're used to (especially if you started with FFXIII!). I personally hated FFIII, but I have to say both III and IV remakes are very good. You can fidn FFIX on PSN, it's the PS1 version since it's never been remade.
The title you'll have most troubles finding I think would be FFXII, which is only for PS2. Hopefully they will remaster it for PS3/PS4 but no plans so far.

As a personal advice, if you haven't played them yet I would suggest you try out the tactics series which is amazing (and of course XIII-2 and Lightning Returns).

FF 1 2 3 4 5 6 can just Android it or PSP or PC Emu , FF 7 8 9 10 10-2 can PS3 , There some PSP exclusives like Crisis Core & Type-0 so PSP it , 13's PS3 , XI PC , XIV PC . I myself mostly played only FF titles in my life ;P So i know where can find any and how to launch

there are many websites that run emulators and allow you to play the really old ones in your browser. and as vlad just said above me, there is many emulator programs you can download for smart devices and/or pc. and just about all of the old ROM's (games) are on the internet.

If you have an Android tablet I would recommend you to buy those. They are refined ports and they work really well with the touch system as they are turn based. Begin with those they will take you some time to finish.
You can play all FF from 1 to 6 on Android and iOS.
After that you can begin the 3D era of the games. 7 to 9 are on Playstation 1. FF8 has been released on Steam for PC as well. I recommend you a PC emulator for 7 to 9 if you don't own a Playstation.

My first Final Fantasy was X-2 and boy I get the flak so hard because people said it was horrible and they're sorry it's my first FF...it's also my favorite.

Anyways, as others said, emulators could work. My brother plays one FF...I think it's 6? on the Kindle.
