    Can We Get Secret Quests?!

    What I mean is:

Can we get quests that aren't marked on the map (or mini-map) and only trigger by speaking with NPCs scattered throughout Eorzea? Sometimes you discover people in really out of the way places and it would be nice if talking to them triggered some kind of non-FATE event or quest line. The reward could be vanity items! Perhaps some NPCs only show up at certain times of day or weather? It could be like the sightseeing log but less specific...

I just love talking to the NPCs, and it'd be nice if something interesting happened every once in a while. It would also encourage more participation in the open world and perhaps increase foot traffic to some places that have been neglected (Old Maid's Mill, Silver Bazaar etc.)

For example, "Zombies are People Too" is the perfect kind of secret quest line! You get it from an out of the way NPC (Hab in Sagolii Desert), and it rewards you with vanity (Cactuar Cutting minion). Now imagine if it didn't show up on the map and you had to speak with him during a heat wave (perhaps the heat drove off his friends ^_^).

I would love this and it would add a lot of atmosphere!

Their is one that matches your request, go to horzion, sort of half way between horizon and vesper is an npc that gives a a quest, I think it's called "the greatest secret never told" nothing appears on map ever and you have to work it out yourself

That's the reverse. It shows up on your map and afterwards you get no hints. What I want is for it to not show up on your map, but proceed like a regular quest after you "pop" it.

The riddle quests don't have anything on the maps. No orange circle, nothing. In fact, when attempting to open the map for half the quest, you get an error message stating the map cannot be opened now.

There wouldn't be any point for these quests to be hidden, people will discover how to do them and put everything on the internet in less than a week.

WoW has a number of quests that can be picked up by getting loot drops and finding objects in the open world. Some of that would be awesome. Stumbling upon some of the longer lore packed quest chains in WoW was really neat experience (a few of them are upwards to 20 chains, packed full of information).

    This list is alright: http://www.wowwiki.com/Long,_excepti...den_questlines

Their parody quests are funny XD. Linken to the past... lol

No, what I mean is that the original NPC that gives you the message is marked on your map. After you talk to him you have nothing showing you where to go. I'm asking for an NPC that ISN'T marked on your map, can give you a quest and THEREAFTER proceed like normal (with markers and the like).

I don't look stuff up online, and I'm sure there's a lot of people who do the same, or only look up quests in regards to endgame raiding. This would be very fun content for that segment of players.

In other words you want the FFXI-style of questing:

While such a method of questing in RPGs can be rewarding, at the other end of the scale it can be downright frustrating to have to run around clicking on NPCs just to find a specific quest you just know is there, but can't find, leading to endless frustration.

And as has been stated, usually this just would result in the player finding other ways of locating the desired quest by simply looking online for the information, either through official channels like a strategy guidebook, or on a website. All SE has done with the hand-holding system in ARR is cut out this middleman by showing you exactly where you have to go without this extra hassle.

Maybe the fix to this would be to have the 'best of both worlds' - by keeping the current hand-holding system as default, but add an option in System Settings that can turn off the Duty List and quest notification icons above NPCs if desired for those like you that want the challenge of finding quests accidentally.

I think you guys are getting me mixed up. I'll try and clarify:

    1) Right now all available quests are marked on your map...AND
    2) Once you start a quest there are markers and highlighted areas showing you where to go.

The exception to this rule is the "Greatest Secret" quest. This quest is:

    1) Marked as an available quest on your map...BUT
    2) Once accepted there are no markers or highlighted areas to show you where to go.

What I am asking for is:
    1) A quest that is NOT marked as available on your map...BUT
    2) Once accepted, there are markers and highlighted areas to show you where to go.

    I am NOT asking for:
    1) A quest that is not marked as available on your map...AND
    2) Once accepted, there are no markers and highlighted areas to show you where to go.

The only "secret" part is obtaining the quest. Some people will just look up everything online, but I think there are a large amount of players (like myself) who will be more than happy to stumble across it accidentally.

    P.S. That comic is funny

Hence why the internet is the worst thing to happen to online games.
