Confused about Ifrit Hard Mode drop....?

So, there I was, on my second relic line, this time for my SCH, and we are doing Ifrit hard mode. We down the boss with no problems and the loot chest appears as normal...however, inside the loot chest, was a SMN book that was ilvl 80, and NOT called Ifrits Grimoire. It had a longer name and was ilvl 80, not 60. I rolled greed on it since I was not a SMN at the time, and lost to a need roll by a SMN that was with us. Now, I said all that to say this... I am not insane and I KNOW that because I remember it being a longer name, I rolled greed on it and I already owned an ilvl 60 Ifrits Grimoire, and my buddy that ran with me remembers the same events.

What was this mysterious book? I can not seem to find it on any drop list for Ifrit Hard.... Help please!

I'm curious about this as well! Very mysterious! This is the kind of thing that make MMO's a delight to play though!


OP did you happen to notice the icon for the Book? Did it look like Ifrit's Grimoire, or different? I know you can't really tell details from the little icon, but I was curious if you noticed it was a different color or anything?

Honestly, I do not remember the icon. I just remember it being ilvl 80, had a long name, and was for a SMN. I was kind of excited about getting it because then I would not even bother to do the relic line on my SMN since I don't really play my SMN.

According to the Lodestone Items database, there are only two iLvl80 SMN books: The Veil of Wiyu (first stage Relic) and the Greater Key of Titan (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...m/d38dd5806ae/), which is a Titan HM drop. Considering it's from Ifrit and allowing that it might not have been ilvl80, you may have stumbled onto a super-rare drop of an Inferno Grimoire (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...m/fde6151c997/), although I wouldn't consider that to have a "long name" and the only confirmed method of getting this one is high-level crafting involving Demimateria.

OP - I think you can use the screenshot button to take a picture.. if you are playing on PS4, I don't know then ^^

And for the Inferno Grimoire, which takes a toll on crafters, I highly doubt it would drop.

Else, people will stop hunting and doing coil runs lol

None of that stuff sounds familiar.... and after again talking with my buddy, we are still just as confused as ever. I wonder if a GM can look at the logs for my dungeon and see what dropped... i just have to know!
