I would like to know beside the games you said you played have you ever fully played Final Fantasy 11 . Just wondering because asking because we were discussing this today in my ls . I know every game needs to be different and i know you may not answer or even respond but i also would like to know why both games are so far apart from each other

I don't think Yoshida could answer this, since he wasn't brought on the project until December, but I'll take a stab at it.

They wanted to make it as different from FFXI as possible because they didn't want to simply move their playerbase from FFXI over to FFXIV, they wanted to keep their FFXI players and create a new game that both FFXI players and casual MMO players would enjoy. They wanted a slice of the WoW pie, and it seemingly backfired.

What i meant was the system not all of it but different things like /sea all - pty flag . dont get me wrong i love this game as far as its getting better with 1.18 but yeah

To be fair, Final Fanatasy XI was pretty far apart from Final Fantasy I-X

Well, to be fair, Yoshi-P wasn't in charge of the initial design of FFXIV. Tanaka was. And I'm pretty sure Tanaka was familiar with FFXI, since he was its lead designer.

I seem to remember that in one of the many interviews they've done, Yoshi-P and his team agreed with you. They said that the dev team in FFXIV tried too hard to be different just for the sake of being different, and they think that was a mistake.
