How difficult are the mysterious maps to solo? Can an I96 BRD solo?
Also, can you hold more than 1 map at a time?

Some are easy, some are difficult.
You probably could solo most of them as BRD (with a lot of kiting for some), but it'd be safest to go with a friend or go as SCH.
You can hold up to 2 maps: 1 deciphered, 1 in your inventory. And then each retainer can hold one.
The spawns you can get are as follows:
- Gelid Eye - Ahriman. Uses Void Fire II, Stone, Stone, Stone, then Level X Petrify which has a very short casting bar. I recommend spinning him around after that 3rd Stone until Petrify goes off.
- Bombast - Just a bomb that swells up in size once in a while then explodes. You can kite when he's swelled up. Kinda funny to watch.
- Slipjaw Ogre (x2) - Just two ogres.
- Drakes (x4) - Four drakes that use frontal cone breaths.
- Dire Gargoyles (x4) - Four gargoyles that use line AoEs.
- Ziz (x3) - Woad Back, Gold Back, Wine Back. I recommend killing them in that order. They're on a timer to use their breath attacks, and Woad's petrifying breath will go off first, then Gold's paralyzing breath, and finally Wine's poison breath.
- Golem - Summons two waves of four bombs as your wear him down. If you don't kill the bombs within the few seconds they're idle from spawning, they'll home in on you and explode on contact.
- Monocular Biclops - Summons two waves of tiny peapuks. The peapuks don't take much to kill, but there are a -lot- of them so they can hurt.
- Morbol Menace - After a while, the morbol binds the target (can be removed with Esuna/Leeches), and then uses its breath (can be stunned to prevent it from going off). Not sure if a BRD can solo this one; I know I couldn't kill it before that bind as a BRD with i100 weapon duoing with a tank.
You can Silence Bad Breath on this enemy. I have to do it on MNK if it starts casting another Breath attack and I can't kill it fast enough.Morbol Menace - After a while, the morbol binds the target (can be removed with Esuna/Leeches), and then uses its breath (can be stunned to prevent it from going off). All jobs can solo all these maps especially if your chocobo knows at least Choco Cure. The only job with any major disadvantage is SCH for the Golem + Bomb map due to them not having any burst damage or a pet that can add DPS, but it is do-able.
Biclops is tricky because of the adds until you realize they spawn based on his HP%. If you do not touch the boss at all (or have your chocobo attacking it) you won't get both waves of adds on you. Take your time and keep your chocobo in healing mode and it's easy as all of his attacks are avoidable.
Drakes can be annoying because they and the chocobo keep pushing each other around and makes them move all over the place so breaths just go everywhere.

The morbol can be silenced by brd, slept by blm, and stunned by most jobs to avoid bad breath.
All the maps are soloable but if you need to do one in a high level area it might be wise to take a friend or put up a call in PF. Some maps become much harder when wandering enemies are dragged into the fray, and one mistake will REALLY hurt. I believe the Cyclops does about 1500 damage if you don't dodge his swing, and the drakes breaths hit for several hundred as well.
My recommendation is to do at least a few with a friend until you're comfortable with the types of enemies, then tackle them by yourself.
Finally got to see this one as SCH. Felt pretty easy. Shadowflare, Miasma2, Blizz2 spam on the bombs.
Alternatively, I probably could've made sure the golem had fairly fresh DoTs, lured it over to the bombs and Baned.
Now that I've done all of them as SCH, without my choco, I can say it's a slow, but really safe job to use for maps.
Yeah, using SCH, rather than BRD, is probably the safest bet. It would help a lot if you have a choco to cure you while you're kiting as a bard.
