If you are going to follow that logic then, why not swap penance (-10 HP 2 STR -1 VIT) for Iron Tassets (12 HP 5 MP)?

P.S. Tarred Voyager Belt has 14 HP as well and is another optimal choice.

I could very well do that - but I don't. The point I made before still stands.
