What keeps you playing?

Gearing up alts, finally doing animus (I started that atma crap a bit late...), saving up for personal housing, roleplaying...

But guess it's mostly the fact that I want to play Final Fantasy, but I can't get myself to start another save on any of the offline-FF games. x') Always start grinding levels like it was an mmo and then kill the fun for myself.

(<- Still hasn't beaten III or VI, because "amagawd, I have to level every class/character to 99 on everything before engaging last boss. And then midgrind I lose interest and when I pick it up again I've forgotten most of the story and want to start all over.)

:O that's me! So totally me! I have gotten a bit better at it, though, and can force myself to stop searching for that elusive loot or card or whatnot and actually kill that last boss XD (Though for me it's IX and XII that have been put on hold for now... the former because I messed up in a side quest and couldn't bring myself to start all over from the start right then and because my disc IV is missing. and the latter because I really disliked the streamlined A-to-B gameplay in the first 70% of the game ^^; )

The battle systems suits me , i like it how it works atm , and i hope it dosnt change^^

Ive played Everquest 2 for 5 years , ive quit playing it after they added an ingame shop.
(+this game had monthly fees)

Since this time , ive tryed many different MMOS , but all feeled kinda dull and boring.
Since ive quit EQ2 , FFIV ARR is the first MMO that ive played longer then 1 month^^

This, so much this. The atmosphere of this game is absolutely stunning. I'm sad that so many people are completely focused on turning every game they play into a competition or 2nd job, to the point where they don't take in what an amazing world SE have created here.

To each their own, we all play games for different reasons, but the atmosphere of games is what often sticks with people the most. It's one of the main components in the nostalgia that we hold for our favorite games. It's a shame that people often don't take the time to appreciate it while they play it, rather than a couple years in the future.

I've just been ignoring coils for the longest time and leveling all my jobs and gearing them all up.

Not much, mostly gardening at the moment. I still have 3 months on my sub so I'll see what happens game related at that point. As of now I'm kind of bored with it.

I keep playing because I enjoy the game. I have two classes at Level 50 now (Summoner, my main, and White Mage) and I am looking forward to playing them all to end game one day. I enjoy the class mechanics and combat. I think the main reason I play the game though, is because I love the story and lore of this world. I still have many class quests to complete and endgame things (Such as dallies) to still win. I have also been very impressed with how much story content is added into the game via patches, so that keeps me looking forward too!

Was wondering what keeps everyone playing. Lately I find my self having to force myself to play the game cause I pay for it every month. I usually just log in, reset my retainers, then try to find something to do.

After 2.3 hit, sure it was fun for a week, but then then I realized most of the game got killed off for me and everything became less of a chore and more monotonous. Didn't need to run dungeons anymore cause hunts became the 1 stop shop. Stopped doing hunts because of the drama, and now it's impossible to find consistant pug groups that are competent for fights. Trying my hardest to hold on til 2.4

What keeps you playing?

If you are forcing yourself to play, then perhaps you should just take a brake or un-sub for a while. Come back in a patch or two, and see if you enjoy it again. A brake from MMO's can do wonderful things, I have found in the past. Means you can come back to it with fresh eyes!

I must admit, it boggles my mind why some people seem to play a game they hate just because they have payed for a month in advance, or because they are a fan of the brand. I see the same thing with SWTOR, and even WoW! If you are not enjoying the game and feel 'forced' to do play it, then I fear you have only yourself to blame if you continue.
