    Seriously, fix the Elemental Destabilization..

I just started a synth, used Standard synth once and destabilized lightning..

Not a big deal, makes crafting a little challenging..

Fourth Standard Synths later 40% complete, still destabilized...

Fourth more synths now at 80%, still destabilized...

Synth number ten, 95% complete, still destabilized..

    Synth number eleven, shatter..

This doesn't seem broken to you? This destabilization balancing is out of control and needs to be addressed. It's one thing for this to happen and create a challenge, but it should NEVER last a full synth, and it should NEVER happen more than twice in a single attempt.

For the love of god, just because I'm complaining about it DO NOT ax it from the game.. It's a good feature and I'm tired of watching good things get ripped out of the game because a vocal minority don't like them..

I agree with you that this can be REALLY irritating. But this usually happens on one or more of these conditions:

    1. Synth is way above you (6 ranks or more)
    2. You don't have the needed synthesis support
    3. Half moon - this moon phase seems to complicate synthesis in general

Ofc destabilization can happen anytime during the synth process, there are some ways that help you to deal with them:

    1. Brand of XYZ, usually removes destabilization after 1-3 waits
    2. Assemble (Woodworking), Piece by Piece (Armorer) seems to have same luck/fail rate despite destabilizing
    3. Hand of the Gods prevents a great loss of durability on explosion

Hope this can make your crafting experience more enjoyable! ^^

Other than Ice/Lightning which reduce progress, the others are pretty much ignorable.
Anyway "Wait" is your best friend.

    Try this:
    Wait x 2 -> Synth
    (Repeat)
This keeps the penalty from waiting low.

I heard people say elemental affinity (element strong against) helps with restabilization but no hard data there.

Imo the only ones "ignorable" (sometimes they can be bad enough..) are Fire/Water.

Here's a quick description on what they do:
Fire/Water unstable: quality will be increased at lower rate
    Wind/Earth: higher durability loss
    Lightning/Ice: slower progress gain

All will do the following on explosion:
    Quality halved
    Durability loss of around 15-25

What I have heard/experienced is that Control is your best insurance against instability - eat Control food (fishy dishes like tuna kabob) to top it off.

    Agreed.

It is infuriating to start a brand new synth with a failed standard followed by a destabalisation. It's even more infuriating if it's lightning because then the synth takes nearly twice as long to complete. Crafting is already an enormous grind at higher levels without doubling the time it takes me to complete a synth.

Another thing that seems to cause instability over and over again is using the non-native tool for the synth. Each synth seems to have a favored tool. For mass production synths, determining which tool is native is pretty easy. It is always the one in which you can get High Yields as opposed to High Quality. For finished items and others, it is a bit more difficult to pin down and usually takes experimentation to figure out which tool works best. Sometimes common sense applies, but not always.

The moon phase nonsense needs to be axed yesterday.

I agree to some extent, and will definitely try the suggestions posted above. (Thanks!) But my biggest problem involves the crafting attempts that seemed doomed to failure from the start. Maybe crafting is too easy, and we need a few failures from time to time to keep it from becoming a 100% success rate as long as you know what you're doing. But I'm tired of going along with easy recipes, using my abilities, and handling the stability of the materials, only to run into an attempt that fails no matter what... regardless of moon phase, level of the synth, stability of the mats, etc. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. You might chalk it up to bad luck, but these episodes seem to be evenly spaced... maybe about every 10 to 20 crafting attempts, depending on the level disparity.

For me, that's the most frustrating thing. The second most frustrating is what the OP mentioned, which can probably be managed to some degree with the various suggestions given.

Everytime I started to run into insanely amounts of destabilisation I put some points into the element stats of my char. Always seemed to help. (Aside from what's allready beeen told by others)

but these episodes seem to be evenly spaced... maybe about every 10 to 20 crafting attempts,
    Its simple probability...
