Be nice if people would test their theories before posting.
The hour phase hypothesis is even less likely to be implemented in the game than the moon phase.

Besides while breaking carp into Fire crystals, I just got Ice at 4:12, stabilized next round and Lightning at 4:20. 2 synths later, Ice again at 5:24. And Lightning at 6:15.
So "hour" doesn't make a difference.

Why Lightning? Because it is the elemental of the crystal used for the recipe. I get this element most often.
Why Ice? No clue. Maybe because it's the element totally unrelated to lightning. I get this element a bit less often than lightning.
I do get the other elements once in a while.

My elemental affinity is 80 for all except for Lightning/Wind at 92.

A theory only needs 1 counter-example to disprove. If the "hour" theory can't hold up in any random test (in this case 4), then it is wrong until it can be improved, assuming that it can.

Anyway, the weather went from sunny to cloudy in Uldah and I got only ice and lightning for the duration of the run - 56 synths in all.

Did you religiously take down all the data? Or is it based on what you remember?
If the former, please make it available for other people to look at.
- Did you include the possible variables? Affinity, weather, moon phase, hour, shard used, craft?
If the latter, then it doesn't hold much water no matter how many crafts you have at 50.
- Because we remember what we want to remember.

Well maybe a recipe has two elements, even if one happens to be 0. I find it amazing that you never had any other elements. You didn't get any water or wind at all? For me the elements vary more based on hour changes.

3. Half moon - this moon phase seems to complicate synthesis in general

Stop spreading this kind of nonsense. Nothing with moon phase has ever been proven, nor has SE issued any such statement that they affect anything.
