Help me understand why PSN is needed to play this game.

For someone that uses UGC cards for this game, when those go down in September, I likely will not be able to play this game a lot at all. I'm not going to put up credit card info with how finicky their system is for security, and Crysta was the easiest and likely most safe way of paying for this. I have 5 days left on my current sub, and not being able to play when I've made plans is annoying, and the issue with PSN being needed to play a game separate from Sony is annoying.

That has nothing to do with PSN fixing/updating what they need to. It's three hours left get over it. After tomorrow you have plenty of time to make up for. And if you don't like that then buy a PC. Crying here does nothing but invite the masses of for and against. Then all we have is another big flame war thread snowballing.

This has nothing to do with Sony. SE is the one who has yet to offer a solution outside of the time cards. And no system is safe you can get hit with theft anywhere. PSN gave out the info that this was coming. We were notified about the delay. I get it I do, you're angry and pointing at the nearest thing. But you're killing the messenger here. This maint was planned for a while now, they even delayed. All you have is 3 more hours then you have the weekend/Friday to enjoy yourself.

The network was attacked by DDos. The last time a DDos happened not long after Sony got that giant attack that pretty much shut down the network for a whole month. Sony is probably just trying to protect itself from something like that again. It sucks for some people that can't play right now, but I'd much rather Sony bulk up it's defenses then not be able to play because of a giant attack later. I prefer playing on the ps4, but I have the pc version for back up.

For the guys that keep saying the reason ff14 isnt on xbox because of anitrust issus is obviously thinking too hard about this. Since when do games have anything to do with real life? Microsoft made the system land if they do not want a certain game on their sysem then that is their decision it does not bave anything to do with trust issues.

Edit: if they also dont want to share servers with other companies that is their decision to make even though I am against it, I hate the console wars, I completely hate the fanboys I hate all of that, I dream of a day wherre Microsoft and Sony come together and.buy servers where players from both console can play together.

I had off work today, and go back tomorrow, even more reason to be annoyed that this keeps happening when I have the free time. I'm well aware of the Distributed Denial of Service that took place, and the threats that were made to the Sony CEO on his flight then as well. No one is offering an answer as to why Multiplayer software like Battlefield 4 can be played, when they have their own servers that are used for the game, while XIV can't be played, when it has it's own servers.

So should I be complaining on how SE hasn't gotten the ball rolling on those time cards as well? Because the UGC issue has been common knowledge for around 2 months now, and SE still has not said what they plan to do with that either. A response on why the game goes down for us because of PSN maintenance is another valid concern too, SE has the technology and power to insure this game runs independently of any other corporations or conglomerates, but with all this maintenance lately, it shows a huge hole in everything.

The ToS has specified that we will not be redeemed for time or money when maintenance must occur on the game or it's servers, but what about if PSN goes down for a long time again? And since XIV is shackled to PSN apparently, we'll be getting doubly screwed because we will not be able to play even when XIV is working because PSN is not. How much of the user-base is on PS3 and 4? And how many people do you think will be rightfully angry that we cannot play XIV because SE and Sony apparently want both to work or not at all?

Regardless of if you have PS+ or not, you will not be playing XIV if PSN has to go down because PSN wants to be working as well for some reason, when both should be independent of each other. I shouldn't have to pay for XIV and additionally realize and come to terms with that when PSN goes down, I realize "hmm, not paying for PSN service, already paying for my ISP, the game, and the system, and a membership to the game, but since PSN is down, I for some reason can't play XIV, which is working, when PSN shouldn't need to be online too for A Realm Reborn to properly function. Why is this?"

This is why I stopped supporting consoles in recent generations. They have become just too much of a headache. The whole point of console-based gaming was to allow consumers quick, easy, and cheap access to games. Sadly, consoles are moving in the opposite direction. PC gaming is now the quick, easy, and cheap way.

I'm sorry that this had to happen right on your day off when you had time to play. :/ I didn't get a response when I posted this, so I'll post again.

Your SE account is connected to your psn account. I think when you registered for your SE game on the playstation it "linked" your account to your PSN account. No working PSN, no way to connect to that linked account.
