So there was an interesting cutscene in the event with Yoshi-P the Wandering Minstrel (still want that coat).

A couple of interesting locations mentioned "Gardens of Xarakish" "floating lakes of Voor Sian Siran". Whenever I see new names I always think of anonymoose XD . And if you look at the NPC who sells the Minions and fireworks ... well there is a nice little easter egg there. And when it cames to the bit where the minstrel says Wandering Minstrel: And for that, you have my undying thanks, Warrior of Light. Mine and many others'., i don't know why but i got the feeling that WAS Yoshi talking to us the player.

Edit: I did the quest on my non-Legacy alt and all the text is the same regardless of what status you have.

The whole thing with the wandering minstrel appearing in the "crystal vision" deliberately seemed to suggest to me he might actually be an avatar of Oschon or something. Because the only other times we've really had visions there where people have directly communicated with us has been Hydaelen, hasn't it?

Well him being an avatar of Oschon would make sense ... Oschon is depicted with a bow and Bards use bow so ???

But I thought the circle of Knowing were all avatars or the twelve so ... ???

The Wandering Minstrel has always been Yoshi, since 1.0. It's just his thing lol

In all seriousness... I -LOVE- that they did this. It really makes me feel like they really want to show that we players ARE important.

On topic: Is the event being held only in Limsa? (as this is where I did it) or are there versions for every city state?

There's an area in each city, with some NPCs who you can talk to, but Limsa is the main one for the quest.

Also, in one of the minstrel's songs, was he talking about upcoming events, I remember he mentioned something about snow covered highlands and gates "yawning" open, possibly referencing Ishgard.

Before the Echo was triggered he recited a verse of one of Louisoix's prophecies that we'd already been given. That verse pertained specifically to the current events we're seeing in Coerthas, and presumably Shiva.

Once the Echo hit us and we went to the aetherial realm he gave us a new verse of the prophecy, however, which appears to be about the expansion. As you say that talk of opening gates was almost certainly a reference to Ishgard. There was reference to an old enemy as well, which I would assume to be Lahabrea. It wouldn't surprise me if the final confrontation before the expansion is a rematch with our favourite Ascian.
