500 dps vs 350 dps, u kiddin rite?
what you wanna do (and we all know is true) is play DRG.

I don't always pug, but when i do, it's with Pretty Ugly Guys
Yeah, the difference is never going to be that high between both. Monks reaching 500 have another monk Dragon Kicking for them so they can use Bootshine instead and Bards with High Allagan sub 400 DPS are terrible. I agree Monk is better than Bards (obviously) in term of damages but no need to exaggerate numbers either.
There are just many terrible BRDs out there despite the it having the easiest learning curve.Yeah, the difference is never going to be that high between both. Anyways people tend to be short sighted and look at maximum potential DPS numbers, but however these are under controlled conditions and single target, dummy-like fights like T8/Dummy parses.
In actual situations, most of FFXIV's fights are like playing dodge ball and thus you won't be surprised that BRDs can find themselves top 2 DPS in their team due to their mobility and uptime.
Depends how much you like your group.
If your not very friendly with your group... why are with them anyway?
I don't even think I would want to play with people unwilling to fill the needs of the group.
Waiting for Ninja job killed my static posts (why can we no have 8 ninja coil?)
If you think the "fun vs skill" way then might as well think about your other static members - not sure if they have fun too if you suck at your job. Might end up having the title of "that guy" and other people trying to find reasons why not to do endgame content with you anymore.
From personal experience I use Warrior for fun (and let's say my skill at job could be better). I use WAR in 4 man dungeons or Syrcus. The thing that I truly feel the most is when my team has DPS that deal no damage - because I know how fast that monster usually die and now that ilvl 100 dps is trying to kill it for twice longer. As it doesn't make me mad in dungeon where it doesn't really matter - things are different in Coil and ex modes.
BRD may be a little more simple in its' DPS priorities/'rotation', mainly because of the lack of positional requirements, but I don't agree that the learning curve is much lower. Maximizing damage on BRD does take some effort too. Making sure you get off all your BL/ME procs ASAP and watch for SS procs. And in addition to responsibilities on maximizing DPS, BRD has to think about song usage as well. SHOULD be mainly foe's but you may need to ballad if a healer dies. You may want ether pots for emergency ballad situations in addition to dex pots. Unfortunate that they share the same CD. Good to manage song usage in dungeons too. swiftsong and foe's as needed. Ballad after an encounter if a WHM is holy spamming and gets low. BRD/PLD also on silence duties on t9 golems. MNK doesn't really have a reliable silence for such situations.
MNK has its' own difficulties, of course. Both jobs are nice. I do agree that it's easier to just hit some buttons on BRD and run around wherever you'd like and use your songs poorly (or not at all) and feel like you did okay compared to a similarly poor MNK.

Personally I would have more fun being good at one job, than sucking at another.
Also, if my group didn't have a bard, then I would go bard.

If you're not having fun, why even play?
I guess he means less fun.
