    Fun vs. Skill?

I love playing MNK, but kind of suck at it.
I don't like playing BRD, but am really good at it.

My Static wants me to play BRD because my DPS is higher than my MNK, and it's also much more of a safe pick for end game content.

    But I just wanna MNK!!!!

Should I just tell the, "Ya know what? Eat my fist; I'm gonna MNK or you guys can kick me."

    P.S.

This is also due to the fact I am only 50 SOL from my 110 weapon, and am really trying to decided which class to pick it up for.

Play what you like, and get better at it.

Terrible attitude to have in regards to this issue, even as a joke.

If your MNK performs poorly, improve it. MNK is not especially difficult so I'm not sure how your BRD is performing significantly better.

Bard is essentially a Monk who can attack at any range and can ignore positional requirements. The learning curve for BRD is much lower than MNK (even if MNK isn't all too complicated itself).

BRD may be a little more simple in its' DPS priorities/'rotation', mainly because of the lack of positional requirements, but I don't agree that the learning curve is much lower. Maximizing damage on BRD does take some effort too. Making sure you get off all your BL/ME procs ASAP and watch for SS procs. And in addition to responsibilities on maximizing DPS, BRD has to think about song usage as well. SHOULD be mainly foe's but you may need to ballad if a healer dies. You may want ether pots for emergency ballad situations in addition to dex pots. Unfortunate that they share the same CD. Good to manage song usage in dungeons too. swiftsong and foe's as needed. Ballad after an encounter if a WHM is holy spamming and gets low. BRD/PLD also on silence duties on t9 golems. MNK doesn't really have a reliable silence for such situations.

MNK has its' own difficulties, of course. Both jobs are nice. I do agree that it's easier to just hit some buttons on BRD and run around wherever you'd like and use your songs poorly (or not at all) and feel like you did okay compared to a similarly poor MNK.

Practice, practice, practice! I loved playing Blm but I was clumsy with my spells and my DPS sucked. I trained a lot and played often on it enough (consistency is important) and I got better. I can put out the numbers of your average Blm several ilvl above me now.
You should be kind to you static and play Bard for now, but just don't give up, get better!

I'd have to agree with this. Do bard but let them know that monk is your priority and that, in the future, you want to raid on that. Good luck!!

If you like monk, play monk. Just be sure to practice a bit. Read up on the basic rotation, and practice it on training dummies. You'll know you're ready for raiding when you can put a piece of paper (or a book or something) over the part of your screen with your action bars and can still do the rotation, DoTs and all, just fine. Once you know how to do that without having to stare at your bars, you'll have more raid awareness and won't die to silly AoEs. It might take a bit, but a poorly-played monk is pretty depressing to watch.

My opinion is that this is a video game. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Should I just tell them, "Ya know what? Eat my fist; I'm gonna MNK or you guys can kick me."

No, they're playing the game too and they are also just trying to have fun.
You can, however, say something like "I really like playing monk, I'm sorry I don't fit into the group role here, I'm going to go look for another static if you don't want me anymore."

Don't be mean about it, but you don't have to worry over their feelings either.
If you leave, they'll find another DPS to fill your spot.

    So, you have some choices:

Play monk and look for another static (do what you want, but can be hard to find a static you fit in with).
Play monk and try to make it work with this static (practice and get better at monk for them to make it worthwhile for the raid group).
Play bard and stay with the static (learn to love the harp! My mom says it's cool!).

Figure out which one is the way you want to spend your gaming time, and do that.

    Have fun!
