Doesnt reduced stats for gear not happen until below 30% damage(yellow gear damage)? If so I think the system is rather fine as is. What I would like is for each craft to make repair kits that you use on yourself like an item that fixes your gear in that craft. Such as weaver make an "Emergency Stitching Kit". You could then buy these and take them with you and use them when you need them without having to be slowed down with needing to get repairs every so often. If you want to take this a step farther maybe have this kit only last a set time like it will hold you at 100% for an hour before degrading and returning it to its former damaged state. So you would still need to get a crafter to repair but it offers a temporary solution so you can finsih whatever you want to do. And if you want to you can you use this kit at 100% and your gear wont start degrading for an hour.

I think a common misconception is that gear values go to 0 when broke or are an instant death if u get hit, this isnt true. Sure values are lowered and effect your effectiveness but gear isnt everything. unless you are getting hit constantly (ie: tank, in which case it is part of the role you chose) you shouldnt get damage that bad.

Its always a good idea to carry 2 weapons if possible just in case since weapons are the most influential from my experiences. (really only noticeable when im leveling for hours)

Also, when im loggin out at night i always put my broken stuff up for repairs in menders ward, its repaired the next time i log in 99.9% of the time. Might wanna use Menders ward, its what its there for.

    Maybe to like 125%.
Have it so the higher the crafter's rank, the better chance he has of over repairing something.

so say we have 10 people on one server one year, then 40 people the next year. What is the percentage increase, it's 400%

On topic! People are always going to be annoyed with any kind of death penalty, I bet people on FFXI bitched that EXP loss was too high. My personal opinion would be to lower it slightly, or do a staggered % loss (10% then 7% then 5% etc), but that's just my two cents.

I think it would be nice if there was a 'propper' place to sit with your gear waiting to be mended, for example the Menders' row in market wards (which I think used to be for repair mats?) could be used. I have had my bow up for 3 days with no repair (a few hours each day that is).

a variation on the current system ide like to see higher repair costs, lower deteriation rate and if a item gets to 0% it breaks and is totally unrepairable and a gear can only be repaird a set number of times before it just assplodes, except NM drop gear which requires a specific npc repair if 0% or breaks, that way the gear is always turning around and keeps crafters busy and ppl will actually try to get NM drops.

would need tweeking and weeding out etc but sumin along those lines ide be happy with also as teh current system which i am also happy with too.

im surprised so many people actually like gear damage. Its starting to be come more of a burden to me then loosing exp. I just cant stand overpaying for 75% fixing or having to wait and shout to fix a weapon or something, sometimes taking a long time when i actually want to go do something.

perhaps then make use of that time waiting for repairs and lvl crafts ... saves waiting and you can repair your own gear and your friends on the go it mehbeh?

thats what i end up doing, though ive gotten bored of it already (like 17~ goldsmith) that or i go poke around the internet. The thing is, when i do have a chance to play, i dont want to have to sit around or do something else when i want to be leveling or raid running or questing.

I mean didnt they get rid of fatigue because it stopped people from doing what they wanted to? I understand what the repairs do (remove gil, give crafters more to do, penalty) but when its starting to burden me...especially with college coming up again soon, its just not fun.

i like the idea, 500% = 5dark matters ...same thing exept u put it all in right away in one try. if things go bad u can break down your gear in an hour or 2 so being able to do this is nice. though maybe they want it this way for a reason dunno.

Gear damage sometimes does make me feel like I'm being punished for playing the game. It would be good if there was somehow a way to get away from that feeling while keeping a real death penalty.

To me gear damage death penalty is more like a gil-cost to death rather than a time consuming repair process because it's so rare to find people who can fix your gear for you. I tend to just pay the NPC-because that way I can get back to playing the game instead of leaving my character afk in Uldah for hours.
