LGBT Linkshell and Free Company Directory - Updated August 2014

Hi Everyone!

Looks like it's time for another update. I'll be working on that today I guess.

I also want to address the question of "why do we need this? can't people just play the game and leave <whatever> out of it?"

Most Linkshells and FC's are both 'social' as well as 'game' related. Even in the most hard-core gaming groups I've been in, people still talk about their own lives to some degree. Even if it's just to say "my kids are sick" or "my husband is nagging at me to get off the computer."

I don't think it's entirely possible to keep personal lives out of the game chat and because of that it's important for people to have an environment where they don't have to second guess everything they are going to say for fear of a bad reaction.

Even if people aren't outright antagonistic, it is still an unpleasant experience when you say something about your husband and someone responds with "I thought you were a dude", and then when you say "I am", <person X> has left the linkshell.

Well I for one as a gay male can highly appreciate and understand the need for this. As an analogy think of what it would be like to walk around all day where everyone spoke a different language then you or was an opposite gender to you. That would be you day and every day of the week, month, year. You too would jump at the idea of being able to talk to someone who speaks the same language or is the same gender or other kind of analogy because you don't have to stress and can be open because you are hanging out or talking to people that understand what it is you are going through. In those chats I don't have to worry about awkward silences or the potential of offending someone if I bring up a guy I am dating because the people I am talking to know what it is like.

As a long time Excalibur member who came here seeking an LGBTQ LS to make friends, it saddens me to see there aren't any listed on here. I'll be creating one tonight in Excal because I and a few friends would love to be able to meet more likeminded players on our server and possibly get an LGBTQ FC started in the near future.

We're an LGBTQA friendly LS that's just getting started. Looking to make friends and find people to play with. Everyone is welcome, but universal tolerance of gender identity, orientation, and race are strict requirements. We're mostly casual players but are skilled and active daily. Come join us!

Agreed. My girlfriend is trans, and I'm tired of having to obfuscate that for fear of causing a scene. I was spurred in to coming here to seek an LGBTQ LS and make friends I can speak openly with and bond with. I've been playing FFXIV for around 3 years now and have had no real issues with the main LS I've been a part of for that time, but it's recently been brought to my attention that a fair bit of the members have grown a liking to make thinly veiled transphobic and homophobic jokes and it makes me incredibly uncomfortable and really screws my mood up. People play MMO's to make friends and when friends get close enough they like to share and talk about their every day lives. It's important to have a place where you can bond with people you can be open with.
