Did someone discover a Get Rich Quick scheme in Eorzea, or...

... have people simply lost their minds when pricing gear they're selling on the MW.

Was perusing through the MW tonight (haven't really given it a look since I started over again) and the prices of the gear I'm seeing are, to put it extremely mildly, beyond ridiculous.

    1,000,000 for a level 6 body piece?
    10,000,000 for a level 18?
999,999,999 each for 3 of the same low level item; each one listed by different people.

The most "reasonable" price I saw was 80,000 for a rank 12 or 13. I didn't look much beyond that 'cause the prices were about to make me sick (not really, but you get the idea).

So, have people found a way to 'get rick quick' in FFXIV, are people really just that greedy, or are they trying to scare away new players with an out-of-control economy? Is it a way to try and "encourage" new players to pick up crafting early so they can make all their own stuff?

What exactly happened to the prices during my time away from XIV? Why have they gotten so insane?

P.S. For those who might take my subject line as a literal question, don't. I'm being facetious.

is this your first MMO? Normally people put outrageous prices on the most inconceivable things to SAVE ROOM on their character, bazaar, retainer.

Yes, the get-rich-quick scheme is simply known as playing the game.

    Out of all of XIV's faults, I don't know if they'll EVER be able to fix the economy. ;;

I can only think of why someone would price something like that: to not lose their "spot" on the MW.

I'm not really sure if you retainer disappears once all of the items are sold, but if people think that happens they'll sell stuff for those prices so nobody can buy them and therefor never sell everything.

No it's not my first MMO. Not by a long shot.

It is the first MMO I've played where every single item I see listed on the MW (Auction House, what-have-you) is set at ridiculous prices.

If it was a few items here and there, fine... I could see that. But every single one?

I went through several pages, in a number of categories. It was the same thing throughout.

If it didn't seem so out of the ordinary, I wouldn't have asked in the first place .

There are not a lot of people making low level gear, so the few that are can sell it for insane prices. Good to time to level a crafter though as all that gear can be made at low levels. Once people realize there is a demand to that gear again, they will start making it and prices will plummet.

    Agreed.

I guess they're only targeting advanced players starting on new classes or something, 'cause I can't imagine anyone in their right mind expecting brand-new players to have that kind of money.

I've already decided that I'm going to craft my own gear, and then sell other items I craft at prices I would expect a newer player to be able to afford without breaking themself. Charging those kind of prices for low level gear is just... I can't even think of a single word good enough to describe it lol.

    Thanks for the response

That's a possibility, I suppose. Though, I've seen multiple items being sold by one person, each for the same obnoxious prices. If the goal was merely to 'keep their MW spot', I'd think they would only need one item priced like that, no?

    Thanks for the reply.

Unless SE was to step in and place an arbitrary cap on prices, or impose really high tax % on high-ticket prices, that would come down solely to the players to control.

    Thanks for the reply.

There is a lack of those items being sold so people put them up for high prices because they have no competition. Before 1.18 brought loads of people back to the game there just wasn't much of a demand for such low level gear, now there is a demand. All it takes is some enterprising crafter (either someone who leveled it a long time ago, or a new player taking up a craft) to realize this and exploit that demand for a big profit while leveling by undercutting those fools until prices are more reasonable.

In the meantime there is no reason you should be buying something at that level that is more than 20-30k gil, in fact some of the stuff you can buy from NPC's for less (look them up on a database such as ffxiv.yg.com), instead try and get some gear from guildleves/sidequests (list of sidequests here) from that new Garlean invasion thing or find a crafter friend you can commission to make the items for you. That is what we all did when we first started the game.
