How sending /tells *should* work.

just type the first 3 letters of their name and hit tab :x

Doesnt work every time there are atleast 2-3 people in my LS that no matter how many times we have sent each other tells they are not in my Auto translator dictionary.

Putting aside the publicly available and free options for things like auto-fill and auto-complete (Off the top of my head is LingPipe, Lucene and Sphinx though) there would be an issue if the server was made to handle lookup and autocomplete every time a client tries to send a tell using this feature.

BUT. There would be less strain if the client side app just tracked the people you whispered recently and do autocomplete on its end. Something like an auto-complete/name suggestion for people you have sent a tell previously would be an ideal candidate for the client side app to handle. All you would need to do is successfully send or receive a tell and then the next time you type /t na.... it will suggest /t name lastname

Rydin, you shouldn't let the things BR says about FFXIV hurt your feelings. If he didn't say such things and stir up the hive, we wouldn't have a 1.18. FFXIV would be heading down the road toward Fail City. At least now it has somewhat of a chance, and for that you should be praising him.

What is actually ironic is that the whole database is here right in loadstone. For some reason the game just doesn't want to access it.

Kind of like driving while refusing to read the map. Works at odd times but doesn't work at the most important times.

Not only that but surely there are database calls being made all the time. I don't think it'd be such a big deal to implement such a thing.

You know, I would just register players in the Auto-Tranalation system who are (underlined those whose should be resetted after exiting the game:

• Around you Talking
  
• Shouting
• In the Friend List
• In the Linkshell

You don't need any other people to /tell afterall, and if you want to whisper to someone who never /tell'd you, then you simply send the player a tell, then it is registered in your CTRL+T list until you close the game.
Spares resources and loads of useless data. I like it! What about you?
