Return Of The Star Onion Brigade

One piece of questing content that was almost universally beloved by all the players of FFXI were the Star Onion Brigade (SOB) quests.

The NPCs were memorable, and interacted with each other depending on the quest. The SOB encounters and quests almost alway involved other non-SOB NPCs in some way or another.

The reward items for the quests were also highly valued, because they were both low-level and granted a simple, yet significant bonuses. I still have my Promise Badge to this day.

Despite the title of this topic, I'm not proposing a copy-paste of the SOB quests from FFXI to FFXIV. What I am suggesting is a set of sidequests along a similar theme of the SOB quests.

Most people like children, and like interacting with them (even NPC children). A group of children getting into all sorts of minor trouble in FFXIV may be a welcome distraction from the day-to-day grind of guildleves.

There are many examples in entertainment of children organizing for adventure and/or mischief. The Baker Street Irregulars from Sherlock Holmes, the Lost Boys from Peter Pan, the Goonies, ... and yes, the Star Onion Brigade and Young Griffins from FFXI.

Anything patterned off those, or something completely original, would make a good addition to the game, in my opinion.

PS - Thank you, Phogg of Eorzeapedia for reminding me of these fun quests. This is really your post. I'm just typing it for you.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

They are waiting to be awaikened

There's whole bunch of kids standing and sitting on the boxes outside west of Adventurers guild in Ul'dah. I asked myself: "Are they new "Star Onion Brigade" waiting for developer's "Go" command?"
May be the true "brigade" is in Gridania: a group of mischievous kids is hanging west of the Carpenters guild?
They already sent me on the wild goose chaise across the Black Shroud forest in my Carpenter rank 20 quest!

Which one is to start the 1st "Star Onion Brigade" quest? My bet is on Gridania kids!
    What say you?

Yes! When my character first traveled to Windurst it was such an experience. Talking to all the NPCs gave me a feel for the culture of the city, which was refreshingly different than the other cities. This is lacking in FF14.

The Star Onion Brigade were by and far the most fun. It was like a mini detective agency, investigating and uncovering mysteries and crimes. Perhaps best of all, it introduced other NPCs and revealed more of their personalities by pulling them away from their main business, getting them slightly out of their comfort zone, having to deal non-lethally with meddlesome children.

A remake of the SOB quests would be fanastic. Obviously not exactly like the quests but something with the same idea woul be cool.

But that could be said about anything really.

I know final fantasy 14 is very much its own world however would be cool to see some cross over from final fantasy 11 quests.
one of my personal fav final fantasy 11 quest was the one when you get an npc.
We find out about magic mirror and npc gets a skill called blessed radiance, however we never find out what happened to the other mirror that was talked about in the quest , it be cool if they added a quest in ff14 that had the other mirror , maybe gave a little background info on the quest from final fantasy 11.

Or if not that the star bridgade could turn up or some other things from ff11.
