Why have Vote Kick if it's almost entirely abused?

It was easier dealing with jerks and AFKers without any recourse (ie being helpless to deal with them)... than to deal with people who abuse it. This system has seen almost nothing but abuse since it's inception. I'd rather have no recourse than to have the recourse be abused, constantly.

Take, for example, a Stone Vigil HM run I was just on. 3 people in the same guild, first-timers. I take the time to explain boss and trash mechanics, we die once on the turtle, no big whoop, I explain that cannons should shoot the Aevis off other players, we kill it. I explain the caster guys can only be stunned out of becoming a dragon, I warn of a wyvern ambush area, etc.

We die on the last trash set because A) The WAR and DRG can't stun the caster, and mostly B) Said WAR also let the 2 dragons maul the healer. I jokingly comment that Overpower and Flash typically prevent that. "Oh well, he's a dragon now" was the extent of my sarcasm before being vote kicked.

Here's hoping reporting these people achieves anything. Legitimate uses of this system practically don't exist.

This is the kind of stuff that makes people quit. I can't even hold the hands of some newbies without being kicked the first time I lay out ANY criticism, not even rudely phrased.

Yeah, that's how this system gets used in this game. Someone patiently explains things for you and holds your hand, then you kick them because they are mildly sarcastic.

One could say that one of the Reasons to give for Vote Kick "Harassment" is a Valid reason to remove you.

I don't think kicking someone who rubs you the wrong way is the answer. That said, if someone is only telling me the things he thinks I'm doing wrong, I would be rubbed the wrong way.

Little changes to how things are said can make a huge difference in if people view you as helpful or critical. Like instead of things like "The dragoon didn't even stun the caster", try "No worries, I think we'll do better though if we stun the caster." So instead of singling someone out, you're saying the group (you included) can improve.

I find things like that help keep people happy :P and stop anyone from getting to notion to kick me from their group.

See the thing is, as a fairly new player I tend to read your dialogue as rude and condescending, especially given that from my experiences people who have typically used that kind of sarcasm actually meant to be outright rude toward me and other new players. So I'm tempted to say that their "harrassment" vote was legit from their point of view. I get that you were only trying to help, sorry that had to happen to you, but for future reference you might want to curb the sarcasm since people don't always translate text the way you meant it, they might be reading it completely differently. Just remember that new players running the dungeons for the first time (especially tanks and healers) already get bombarded with toxic behavior in df so to them your sarcasm is probably the last straw even if you just meant it as humor.

I think that the vote-kick system is actually very useful in the cases that it's used properly, I wouldn't want to get rid of it. I've only seen it misused maybe once in the time that I've been playing. And I can pretty much count on one hand the amount of times I've seen it used in the first place.

There is difference between helping and mockery. You can simply explain the boss mechanics to new player or you can explain "the obvious boss mechanics any idiot could understand". Got the idea?

Sometimes it's better to just not speak at all...a lot of my dungeon runs ill just type two sentences:
"Hi"
"Thanks for the run"
Unless it's a friendly group then I'll become extremely talkative.

But according to what you showed us, those side comments didn't help. The key word you gave us is "first timers" you could've just been the better person and just let it be.

But i understand your point, although I don't agree with it. What I can tell you is that we have a lot of extremely sensitive people in this game it's not even funny.

And - giving too much power over one person - Leaders of a party - the community is bad enough as it is, no need for power trippers.
