DDOS isn't hacking, it's just flooding and the worst part about it is that despite Blizzard, Riot, Grinding Gear Games, and other studios and/or platforms getting hit by this, Sony still gets the biggest amount of attention from all sides.

Because being Japanese, and having a shred of decency, they set a stupid precedent by apologizing (despite being the victims themselves,) after which they gave out free stuff for the inconvenience. The leeches are only making a big noise about the down time this time because they're hoping for the same.

Or because they inane two-year olds who didn't read the prompt, and didn't set a PSN account as primary on their PS4, so can't get into anything in offline mode.

In this case, the string of DDoS attacks are merely chaotic, intended to be inconvenient over the weekend. The group responsible has been (lately) trying to put a cause to what they're doing but is largely trollsy.
