In this case, the question wasn't about a service that anyone had paid for. It's about a promotion that SE was giving away for free in hopes that would entice some previous players to return. Now, it may not be as effective an enticement as they'd planned, since a lot of its intended audience can't use it, at least for today. So, the question came up of whether SE will choose to extend the promotion. Sony has nothing to do with the question, so I'm not sure why the discussion got sidelined to what Sony could do about it. It's purely about what SE will decide to do about its interrupted marketing promotion.

Anyway, while they might have considered it if this were a weekend promotion like the last one, I have my doubts that they would bother extending the deal that's already a week long. Missing a few hours or even a day out of a week long freebie doesn't hurt it as bad as it would have if people were missing one day out of a two or three day deal.

You're right. I didn't even realize the discussion had gotten derailed. ^^;; I think SE's problem at this point is whether they just give the extra days to PS4 users only (If you're following the news then you'll know that PS3 users were only affected for a few hours while PS4 users are still being affected) or to just blanket extend the free login period. I do think that extending the free login period would be the right thing to do for SE. If they extend it by say 2-3 days, it'll not only bring them a lot of positive PR but will also leave a good impression on the very new players they're trying to entice in.
