Sony under DDOS attack.

Well I used to run a game server online and are very familiar with DDOS attacks. Whats going on now is most likly a UDP spoof attack thats being filter, the problem is they dont have the sufficient protection to filter it properly (which is what the DDOSers claims is the reason for the attack) so what happens is while filtering out the zombie IPs they also take down most of the legit connections. DDOS protection on the network level that sony has is very very expensive but I cant believe they didnt have it in place. I hope SE is learning from this and looking into their own protection and be prepared if this should happen to them. It doesn't take a genius and a fortune to perform a DDoS attack today and therefore it is a very real threat on the internet.

is it easy to send a DDoS attack? i mean how does one do it? it seems expensive. Like you gotta have a butt load of accounts and computers but i'm a computer idiot so i don't even understand how someone can organize to do this and for a few extra hits? All that extra attention they get will die off once we're able to play online again.

yeah i dont want to give any guides how to do it but these people dont buy 5000 different connections they buy a botnet that has a stub (which is the actual bot) that stub they trick people to download which gets their computer infected. your computer can be part of the attack and you wont even know it. best way to avoid your computer being used as a tool for DDOS is to have a updated and decent anti virus.

Happy day, I think we're almost in the clear. I'm signed into PSN and FFXIV will load, but the server keeps timing out before I can log in. Still not 100% fixed, but I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Of course it could just be massive luck on my part so take what I'm saying with a big grain of salt.

seems like they zeroing in on the pattern of the attack I actually got into the game. theres less false positives now meaning its blocking out the attack but not the legit connections at a better rate

xD that'd be immensely funny but with how it requires an account system i think you would wind up ddos'ing all of twitter =p

That said, are you guys restarting your ps4's in-between attempts, im just logging out and in to try and get updates every 20 mins or so (in-between anime episodes =p)
I'll try a restart, hopefully i can log on and tend to my plants and chocobo ...>_>
