    Dark Knight/Samurai? I want to hear some opinions.

    Hey guys! I've been playing this game for about 6 months now, and over all I'm pretty satisfied. However, I think it's lacking a good 2 hand sword wielding melee dps.

    I want to hear what you guys think about Square Enix adding in either a Samurai or Dark Knight job.

    1.) Do you think it could be a possibility in the nigh future? Maybe 3.0?
    2.) Would you be inclined to play a Melee Slashing, 2 hand sword DPS?
    3.) If these are not added in coming expansions, what do you think will be?

    I really hope they add at least one of the two, smashing and slashing with 2 handers is always fun, but Warrior just isn't cutting it for me. I love this game so far, but I really hope one of these two are added, if not I might go back to WoW.

    Would prefer to see either / both of these as tanks instead of dps. this game has enough dps as it is and they are about to add yet another.

    The rogue/ninja are hailing from Doma. FF mythos-wise, Doma was also the realm for Samurai in FFVI (it too got wiped by the Empire). I see no logical reason as to not expect to see Samurai be introduced as a tank as a continuation of Doman influence upon Eorzea.

    As for the DK class... meh, i guess... hopefully Square will keep balance in what they introduce: 1 melee dps, then 1 tank / 1 healer, then ranged dps.

    This game needs DPS no more than it needs an increase of RMT sales spam.

    this game needs in my opinion more choices of casters... as of now we have only 2 healers, 2ish magic ranged dps, 2 tanks and 2 melee dps and 1 physical range dps
    i think 1 healer, 1 tank, 1 physical ranged dps and 1 melee magic dps (red mages) would spice thinks up

    and what i mostly want, personal limit breaks for each class, since it don't make sense for monks to get a spiritual buster sword or sumoners casting meteor...

    I see dark knight a samurai being added way later. In 3.0 they said they going to add a new healer and a tank so seeing a new dps would take a while.

    I am not opposed to SAM, Dark Knight a little more but thats just because of the hype train over DRKs. I would like to see at least one more caster, one more tank, we all ready have a new melee DPS and ranged in the works so don't need those so much. I would prefer to see another blunt damage class since Monk currently is the only class that has a debuff to increase blunt damage on target, yet it only helps them and other monks. At least slashing down affects WAR, PLD, and soon NIN. Pierce down helps DRG and BRD.

    Don't be cheeky and try to call books, staves, or wands blunt dps. -.-

    Personally, I would really like to see a take on FFTA's Templar. A lance and white mage based tanky class, using spells like Barrier and Astra to mitigate or avoid damage. That is probably a pipe dream though. A Geomancer or Elementalist type class would also be interesting as a hybrid DPS/Healing caster. (You have no idea how much I'd love to see a Tactics inspired Geomancer running around with a 2-hand axe blasting doods in the face with lava)

    May elaborate later, gotta escape this office.

    I'd rather see them both as melee DPS, and save the next tank for something a bit more exciting. A Dark Knight should never be a tank, it's a pure DPS class. Sam just doesn't feel like it'll offer anything else that a WAR doesn't do already. DPS can come and flood the market and it wouldn't really effect much. Two tanks that play exactly the same? Barely a change in the situation.

    well with the addition of NIN there are now 3 melee and 3 range dps. That's a decent balance, I wouldn't expect to see more anytime soon. Next up is tank/heal, coming with 3.0, which is coming not until next year I'd guess

    SE could try to do something different with Dark Knight and turn the job into a "Drain tank" where you steal HP, DEF, VIT from mobs and sacrifice HP for DEF. I really hope that SE don't go down this path as I would like the Job kept as a physical/magic Job. A better idea for a new tank for 3.0 would be to introduce Rune Fencer.

    I honestly don't get the appeal of either. If I had to pick a "Melee Slashing DPS", I'd like to see Spellblade or Parivir (although Ninja sounds very close to that already) or Templar as Tank.

    Love me some Tactics, bro.

    I think Templar would be great, I would hate to see LNC branch off into another DPS class which I think SAM would almost have to branch out from unless they make a brand new base class. So I think making it go into Templar and making it more tank centric would be interesting and give people with capped Lancers an entirely new type of game play. MRD I could totally see easily branching into Berserker or Geomancer but that would take a bit of work that I'm not prepared to do at this moment in time.

    Dark Knight I don't know if I would want it as a tank like EQ had in Shadow Knights or WoW with Death Knights. The scythe/GS wielding Dark Knights that have become iconic would require a new class, I would not be opposed to it. (I'm mostly bitter about DRK because a friend from FFXI would never shut up about his) Another interesting possibility as much as it annoys me, branch it off from MRD into Hell Knight (another Tactics job. IM SORRY!) which I'm fairly sure could wield 2h axes. It could perform as a tank if you really wanted it or with tweaks through the Hell Knight/Dark Knight soul stone act as a DPS.

    Really think right now we need another ranged attacker, healer, and something that deals blunt damage. If I haven't reached my daily limit I'll come back here after work. Discuss this some more.
