While I do have a nagging feeling this is an issue that has been brought up by dozens of people again and again, I still think I need to whine about this for a little while. Please bear with me.
What's up with drops in dungeons introduced in 2.2 and 2.3?
I wanted to grab Piligrim and Darklight healer sets to... I dunno, pose around in. I like Eorzean fashion and honestly enjoy seeing cool outfits for my role coming together. Unfortunately, the game says no, you won't have those. Because out of 20 or so runs I've done today, gear, any kind of gear, only dropped in less than 10% rolls. Usually it's just crafting mats. What am I gonna do with all this Filtered Water?
It feels a bit less taxing in 2.3 because there's only one set of gear, but in 2.2 dungeons there's two, and you don't see those anyway. I understand the need for RNG and that these mats are useful for some people, but probability is seriously skewed.
Which brings me to my question.
Is this intended? Why? Do the developers see i70 gear that was at some point kinda legitimate (and for fresh Lv50 still might be) progression? Is the demand for all these Hardened Saps really that high? Remember, if you don't want the gear you can always trade it in at GC and get the mats that way, but you can't trade in mats that are useless to you and get DL/2.2 sets instead. Are Piligrim/Shikaree/etc and DL seen as vanity now? Why? Effort cost of vanity items is a topic for another discussion and I don't believe developers are doing a good job of balacing cost versus return in this case, but... This isn't even some kinda good elite vanity, it's just regular old i70 gear. As a bit of an evil joke, side chests actually drop DL accessories 100% of the time. Why not move mats there? Or, at the very least, make boss drops a guaranteed gear drop?
At this point, I'm having way better luck with Coil drops than with gear drops in newest dungeons. That is absolutely ridiculous. I understand that these systems are needed to extend the play and subscription time, but things should be obtainable through enough work. This droprate goes right along with prohibitively costly straw hats with a flower on the side, or Elite GC gear, or mount/mirror drop rates, or other systems that are intended to make few chosen feel unique, but ultimately just leave most wondering if any effort put in is worth it at all.
Well, back to Brayflox with me.
