Company Flair and Camaraderie!

Usually I will give some feedback to something before suggestions on how I feel it could be improved, but this is just a fun suggestion to discuss while Companies are still in the works and on the drawing board.

So far I am very pleased with how Grand Companies are being ushered into Eorzea Sure the quests are fun, the rewards ample, and the Generals stylish, but what I am most excited for is a feeling of camaraderie! Already I am finding myself /waving and /cheering to all my fellow "men of the sea" partaking in and aiding The Maelstrom in their efforts. I understand the system is open to free exploration at the moment, which is great, but once we become committed assets to a cause, a stronger kinship (and distinct recognition) to my fellow soldiers would be most desirable.

For this I suggest; Company Flair! Appendages we are issued by our Grand Companies after meeting certain requirements or completing certain quests. These would be additions/decorations that we attach to our body armors. The flair itself would be quite simple, as to morph around and attach to any body equipment of our choosing, so there would be no situation where we couldn't show our colors.

But in place of my usual wall of text, how about I just dish out some pictures!

The Maelstrom

small addition I just thought of, if the Flair changed slightly as we ranked up in the companies, that would be fantastic as well!

Only concern I have is that it would take forever to design something and make sure it shows properly on every race, gender, and over all of the other clothes, armour, etc. I'd still love to see it happen mind you! But in the meantime even if joining a company would add it's corresponding crests beside player's names, that would at least let us recognize each other?

oh wow I am very pleased to see people in favor of this idea!

I wrote this out in kind of a silly tone as i thought people would think it just a light topic and not something that would actually serve a purpose in game, or be worth the effort for serious consideration of implementation. But I really do feel, aside from being totally stylish, it could create a great sense of belonging for us players, and even though we are all generally on the same-side of the war, it would start to generate some friendly rivalries.

You bring up a good point! One that I too was worried about and tried to consider as I was hashing out this idea.

A piece that hangs down at the hip (like the one for medium armor) actually seems pretty painless and simple, it is essentially just a belt thats goes over equipment and hangs over your leg, and should work seamlessly since medium armor is all very tight at the waist.

And if you look at heavy armor, the shoulders on all of them are identical, so this could just be a piece that is placed over the shoulder. The shoulder pads (I believe) are just turned on and off with transparency, so they could just turn off visibility of a shoulder pad, and turn on the flair! As for porting to races, I think it would just be a means of changing scale values.

A piece that goes around the neck (like the light armor) could just go over robes and shirts, and I think it could essentially be one size fits all.

This is all just my speculation for discussion of course! I won't pretend I know the equip system anywhere near as good as the dev team, and if they say it is totally implausible then I will just take their word for it

I am actually going through and looking at most of our body armors right now to see if any big complications would arise (mainly just as people run by me as I'm crafting lol). I think I will edit the OP later when I have some free time, and throw in lots more examples and see if these pieces really could be one size fits all (plus throw in some ideas for company exclusive stat buffs on these!). If we start to get some unique and crazy looking equips for jobs and the such, then it would probably be a pretty unfeasible suggestion. But I like your idea that we could at least show a basic crest over our name or something similar, would be a great start!

Thanks so much! I'm no artist, I just like to draw as a side hobby whenever I get the time. But I thought dishing out some pictures would really help illustrate my suggestion and help get people excited for Grand Companies!
