    [Suggestion] Cooking Competition / Showdown

The general idea is to add some sort of PVP and endgame purpose for Crafting classes in this case Cooking As the title mention this will some sort of Competition or tournament between Player, Food comes in different flavours, Judge have different favourites, and knowledge of player is tested at the same time

    How this works,

there is some addition, tweak that needs to be added to make the system itself work better; few short description that need to add to the system:

    1. Flavours.
Adding sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness to the food status. This status will not change the current existing stat bonus (STR, spell speed, etc.); This four flavor is the one used to decide how good is the food, This can be added on existing foods or competition specific foods.

    2. Seasonings
Each of seasoning will have flavour modifier, Salt is +10 saltiness for example. The point of this is to get as close or match Judge preference. Seasoning the way we add, this is the same when we try upgrade better version of crafting item/ equipment (normally by choosing the previous version of this item) Chef will need to choose seasoning that will further enhance certain flavours, we can change the amount of Seasoning that can be added as the higher the rank of competition get.

    3. The Judge
There will be NPC that act as Judge on every competition, NPC can be range from someone that introduced to you at the beginning of the story up to the latest NPC available, Scions, all DOH and DOW guild leader, NPC that you help ETC.
They will have specific taste preference and favourite food. Judge will have a specific taste bud tolerance to all the four flavours. The taste bud tolerance point is the maximum tolerance for amount of four flavours can have in the food, for example NPC A have 25 point of sweet tolerance, which mean if he eat anything lower than 25 points he will minus the max score, as well as if the points is going above 25 (too Sweet)

    4. Tournament
Format will be 1 v 1 only and start with Round robin if contestant exceeds 32 players, and followed with Elimination once the number is shrunk down. The competition will have 3 Judges and the score is based on out of 30. Judge is selected randomly from pool of choice, depending of the Topic of the food (which is can be either predetermined pre-competition or randomly select) 1 NPC with highest taste bud tolerance the flavour will be chosen, and the remaining two will randomly pick.

For example Food topic is RolandBerry Cheese Cake, NPC1 that have 30 points on Sweetness he will be chosen, while the remaining two will only have 15-25 point, and will have properly adjusted remaining taste bud (NPC with high Sweetness won’t like something with high Bitterness)

    How scoring works

As described above, this further explain how Judge point will work. The main goal is by getting without overdone it, Roland Berry Cheese Cake, for example again, lets say 15 Sweet, 8 Sour, 2 Bitter, and the 5 Salt (all this number only for example)
Judge will always have only 50 point and it is static ( so that player able to remember )
    Judge 1 30 sweet 2 bitter 13 sour 5 salt
    Judge 2 22 Sweet 6 bitter 12 sour 10 salt
    Judge 3 25 sweet 7 bitter 9 sour 9 salt

The aim of the player is actually by getting highest point possible by getting as close as possible to Judge taste bud without going all the way to sweet. For example, even Judge 1 can tolerate up to 30 Sweet, if you make the Cake with 30 sweet you will get points from judge 1 but less or no point from Judge 2 and 3 because it is beyond their taste bud tolerance (too sweet), and of course that you make salty Cake but it will go downhill from there.

if player make Cake with 25 Sweetness 8 Sour 2 Bitter 5 Salt ( one modifier )
-Judge 1 7/10 points ( Judge is satisfied but not good enough, )
-Judge 2 7/10 points ( too sweet because exceed tolerance )
    -Judge 3 10/10 points ( Perfect )

This just based on 1 variable, moving forward the competition will get harder up to 3 variables for example. This will make players to adapt on both Topic of the food they need to cook as well as still considering who are the Judge.

I like this idea. And i really want to see it come to the game.

But i dont know how you can get this to be anything short of a math game.

As long as there's one pick that's best, there's one way to get that that will slowly be found.

For instance if you have judge X, Y and Z? then making dish A, with ingredients B, C, D and E will win you the highest marks.

The only way this could possible work is implementing random elements, but by doing so this will go from a game of skill to a game of chance. Which isnt preferable either.

If you ever played any of the cooking/judging games (preferably from Kairosoft), you will know that some dishes with the right kind of ingredients and quality will do much much better than others. And simply focusing on those will get you a 100 score from everyone involved. It's IMMENSELY difficult to properly implement this.

You cant base it on a persons skill/stats, because only the top players would win.
You cant base it on judge flavor/points, since it becomes nothing but a math game which dish and ingredients will work best.
You cant have it take random elements, since it becomes a game of chance, not skill then.

I love this, dont get me wrong, i would absolutely LOVE this. But i can see no way this can be put in the game fairly to everyone involved.

Thanks for the Feedback, yes, I do agree that adding random elements make it not game about skill. Unfortunately we can’t run away from Math as based on this. This is because currently our crafting is heavily based on Math, such as certain Craftsmanship, control as minimum value, etc. which thus need to be rounded down so the only choice of seasoning that will affect the results.

I was thinking same issue might arise due to how static the system which might causing draw as result due to both player produce same total points. what come in mind to help solving this by adding few controlled unexpected variables. I am also thinking that it will be best that all item that go on the same level range (left part of crafting window 1-5 etc.) will have same property, regardless of ingredients which means if the competition goes on level 45-50 desert type, all food that can be choose for the theme will have same value on all 4 flavours, now that's aside the solution that I can think of are

    1. Start both player at the same status (craftsmanship, Control and CP)
This will put the player on the same playing field, and they will need to choose which food they will cook according to the theme rather than ah Ican HQ this easily.

    2. Seasoning
Seasoning will not only have 1 modifier, but more toward + and -. for example Salt + 10 saltiness -5 sour or something, this will become a factor to score highest point form Judge and all this need to be adjusts

    3. Judge
i don’t explain it extensively on this one previously, due to only 1 judge that will be announced pre-tournament, the remaining two will be chosen randomly which mean your decision will affected as soon as you know who is it, and adjust the seasoning accordingly; you will give short amount of time to pick which seasoning ( seasoning is include everything from herbs, spice, tomato sauce, oil etc ) and you need to choose 3 seasoning and it will also point based on 4 flavour instead of 1, For example as previous post I did mention that it will be sweet theme, and you need to prepare it to satisfy with all 4 flavors being judged, you will want to make sure that you will get the desired Sweetness but you don't end up with 20 sourness or 20 saltiness. here is where your knowledge and all information is tested quickly take decision on which seasoning need to use. I am aware that this need a lot of balancing, but I think it's workable

    4. Controlled unexpected variables
I am thinking about something similar to to show up like Excellent condition that we have now ( i think back in 1.0 there is several different colour ?), but instead of random occurrence this will be controlled, for example, if you use 5 hasty hands tooclose to each other you might end up with poor condition, which will hinder your progress and due to limited CP available, player need to carefully think through the process

few other that judge favorites will add + 1 to judge tolerance, food characteristic ( food behave differently from each seasoning ), placing a timer for the total process 3 min or 5 min, something similar like what they used on Ixial Daily

I am aware that this will end up for someone that with most information will win the competition, but at least this will eliminate the need of randomness and better equipment mean easy win
