Next relic update in 2.38.

Read the OP much? The question asks about the next upgrade. The answer is different however, and only mentions the next part of the story for the relics is in 2.38.

Not when it says next step in the story. It could be MANY things, including an upgrade, but an upgrade is unlikely. I know how much people want Relics to be on par or better than end game weapons, but they have already confirmed they won't be.

For weapons, the strongest items will be those dropped from the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut, and we have a created a clear path for progression through content and gear. When you're level 50 you can clear a scenario and go after a good primal weapon. Once you have that, you can challenge the Crystal Tower, and get items from there. After that, challenge the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut. The difficulty of content and the strength of items will follow this order, going up and up. Both primal weapons and relics will have their own place in this hierarchy, and primal weapons are not at the top.

Well then it looks like relics will be BiS till 2.4 then

I'm pretty sure 2.4 release will be 2 or 3 weeks after 2.38 release, ppl can start the new relic quest, which probably gives an ilvl 120 relic, but 99% of the playerbase wont finish it before 2.4 anyway, when the new best weapon will be ilvl 135

and with 2.5 they might implement ilvl 130 relics

Desynth ourselves 10 Battlecraft III?
Spend 10,000 soldiery?
Oh oh how about beat turn 9, 10 times, or beat turn 5, 50 times!
Or maybe they'll reveal Supra-Atmas, obtained by trading in 3 of one atma to get the supra! So we can get 36 atma for our upgrade!
Or maybe... Okay okay how about this one, the upgrade requires Primal drops like Vortex Feather, Inferno horn, etc!
Oh! Oh! How about---- More Tier 4 materia? Maybe a new sphere scroll that takes nothing but T4!

novus was the easiest upgrade so far, the first one might take about a month, but my 2nd animus -> novus was a 5 minute thing

i think the new upgrade requires a similar effort

Want a BiS weapon mailed to you?

What else can a game do other than gate such powerful weapons behind a raid boss? The options for relic weapon upgrades are never difficult, that is why those upgrades methods are so grindy and/or costly.

Don't want to raid for a weapon? Then deal with the crappy grinds.

Please just be an atma-like enhancement in nothing but item level.
Outdating t9 weapons before 2.4? REALLY?
