You could always reset his/her color and just do berries stopping when you get the "Feathers" message. After four plumage changes you will be at Gobbue Gray. From there maybe a Pineapples or a plums till the "Feathers" message would get you to the slate grey you are looking for. It's not proven, but it looks like it might work, value wise.

I fed my rank 6 chocobo 3 O'Ghomoro berries then 3 Valfruit as per recipe on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...pli=1&sle=true and achieved Rose Pink, starting from the default colur. Stable conditions were always good. I fed once every 24 real life hours, and on a friend's suggestion, within 6 hours prior to Tokyo midnight. (All those quests in FF11). He thought it might lead to the feathers growing message when we logged on the next day. I received the first feathers growing message at the second feed, after 2 O'Ghomoro berries, with Ul brown the resulting colour at the next logon. The second feathers growing message came on Day 6, after a third O'Ghomoro berry and then 3 Valfruit, one feed per RL day within 6 hours of Tokyo midnight. On Day 7 Joyeuse was Rose Pink, the colour I was aiming for. I hope you can add this to the study results. Thankyou everyone who contributed to the list of recipes on the spreadsheet.

I did keep a log of program messages, and noted their variance, but I didn't do anything in relation to them, as I was feeding daily at a set time. Only the "beginning to grow new feathers" message seems to have had any significance. However, I can post the daily messages if someone wants them.

I'd like to point out that the Actual message given other than the feather change one is "(chocobo's name)'s plumage will be ready for change in 6 hours." Will be ready for change. At no point does it state that it IS changing. It only states that the plumage will be ready for a change.

That's important to consider if you want to figure this out. Don't ignore the first message.

I can't get my chocobo's "feather changing" message right now, in fact, it only gave me the "ready for change" notice once. The last time this happened to me, I waited the 6 hours (which feeding him more does not reset as I THINK it resets when it says the "feather changing" message).

Once you feed your bird, you get the "ready for change message". It means nothing other that you have a six hour window to feed your bird and get the "growing new feathers" message. Once you get that a change will occur when that 6 hour timer expires, as long as you don't fetch your bird before then.

I only fed my bird berries. I don't know if when you get multiple "feathers" messages if it means you will go through different progression of the color change when the timer expires. Does anyone have data on that?

i.e. you want Gobbue Grey coming from Desert Yellow. You feed your bird until you receive 4 "feathers" messages then stop. When the 6 hours are up and you check your bird, is it Gobbue Grey or did it go through only one color change?

Desert Yellow to Snow White to LOTUS PINK!!! Chocobo color!!

    I AM SO SUPER EXCITED!

I turned my chocobo Lotus Pink!
I followed someone's advice online and it worked!
    Steps:
    Start with default yellow color.
    Feed chocobo:
    15 x Doman Plums
    6 x Cieldalaes Pineapples
    12 x Valfruit

I did this in one feeding. I fed it one of each fruit, then rotated.
Ex: 1 Doman, 1 Pineapple, 1 Valfruit , repeat until all gone.

I did NOT stop at the first feather proc "Chocobo is growing new feathers/ New feathers begin to appear". I kept going until all the fruit was finished. I got the feather proc about 7-10 times during this feeding.

Kept it in stable for 6 hours, came back and it had turned Snow White.

Then I fed it Valfruit until I got the FIRST feather proc message and stopped.
This took me exactly 6 Valfruit to get to the first feather proc. The other person who did this only took 4 Valfruit to get feather proc. So just stop at the first feather proc.

Waited 6 more hours, came back and it was Lotus Pink!
    YAY! Goodluck!

I can't remember off the top of my head but the fruit that dilutes the color I believe is your best bet. I would feed till you get a message and wait to see the outcome. Then repeat the process if it didn't make the desired change. If you are at cream yellow, if it's reliant on a color wheel, then eventually diluting it will make it white....could be way off though.
