My husband's chocobo:
He stops feeding when he first gets the new feather message.

Fed 3 berries, got the new feathers message. Result: UI Brown
Fed 3 berries, got the new feathers message. Result: Aldgoat Brown
Fed 1 berry, got the new feathers message. Result: waiting

That is what I had up to the Ui when I started and it's in line with this guy and others I've seen.

Did he start from Desert Yellow? And is the only fruit he's been using is O'Ghomoro Berries?

I've been performing some basic tests. In all cases we fed the respective fruit until the "growing new feathers" message appears and then stopped.

The first set was Berries and Plums.

Berries:3, Plums:1 -> Ul Brown
Berries:4 -> Ul Brown

Pears and Pineapples
Pears:9, Pineapples:1 -> Cream Yellow
Pears: 10 -> Cream Yellow

Last was Apples and Valfruit
Apples:3 -> (awaiting results)
Apples:3, Valfruit:3 -> Millioncorn Yellow

Based on previous forum posts, and comparing to these results, unless a effect begins to happen at large numbers of messages, I'm beginning to lean towards your chocobo only changing based on the first fruit to give a message. If the final apple test results in millioncorn yellow which I expect it should, then it should pretty much confirm those results.

Next test, is a single fruit, 1 message vs.. say 5? to see how different the impact is.

Forgot to add, all tests were performed in the same stables at the same condition. The results are consistent across chocobo's with a large level gap, so I do not believe level plays a part.

Did you start your tests from Ul Brown or Desert Yellow?

This so much. It's very easy to miss a message, because it can trigger on the very first feeding, leading to a messed up data result.

I would if I could, but I've been making guinea pigs of the FC and so I don't have screen shots of everyone's feeding session. But I worked hard to make sure everyone clearly understood what we were after, and fed slowly to make sure we didn't accidentally miss a message.

We started our tests from Desert yellow, they were all different chocobo's so we did them all at the same time.

The two Ul Brown chocobo's were fed valfruit to message, 2 and 1 respectively and both turned cork brown.

Yes, starting with Desert Yellow. Only snack has been the O'ghomoro Berries. We were aware of the "new feathers" message when he began his coloring, so we were sure to keep track of it.

starting: Coral Pink: fed 12 Berries => 1st new feathers msg => Plum Purple
starting: Plum Purple: fed 3 Berries => 1st new feathers msg => Regal Purple ( my guess is Gloom Purple, so we will see how I fare on that- update: I was wrong!)

So, in total so far, I have lighten green for 2 "new feather" msg, then deepen red for 5 "new feather" msg, and deepen blue for 2 "new feather" msg.

1 Apple (NO new feather msg). Result: No Change
3 Apples (stopped at first new feathers msg). Result: Millioncorn Yellow
8 Apples (NO new feathers msg). Result: No Change

So, good friend of mine decided that since I was trying to achieve the Soot Black color with only Lightening snacks that he'll attempt to do it with only Darkening snacks! Set up a spreadsheet for him, he's going to keep me up to date with the information provided, and I'll update it as necessary.

Not that I think it's related to the chocobo dyeing themselves, I'm going to include Weather/Time just for more accurate information. On both mine and other's posts. Can include links to the chat logs, but including that information on the spreadsheet anyway. Also worth noting, that we're only going so far as the "growing new feathers!" message appears. We're not doing further than that, on any testing ground.

So, are you saying you got 1 new feathers message for the set of 5 valfruits or that you got a new feathers message for each individual valfruit within the set of 5?
