    Unable to complete version check

    So a friend bought the game on Amazon, tried to install it, only to get this error when starting the program. We've tried a multitude of previous fixes to no avail. A list of the attempts are:

    -The FFXIV_Boot.cfg edit where you change the 0's to 1's to force an update;
    -Repeatedly Uninstalling/Reinstalling;
    -I've sent him my boot file from the program files which he replaced his boot file with;
    -Tried other boot files replacements that had worked for previous people.
    -Unchecked 'Read Only' in all assosciated folders;
    -Completely disabled all windows and third party fire-walls/ antivirus;

    I've seen this problem a lot and would not be posting unless I'd exhausted all previous fixes. We seem to be out of solutions. On a side note, internet connectivity is also not an issue. We were skyping the entire time with no interruption. This was on 8/21/14 between 11pm and 1:30am on 8/22/14 (PDT). Any help is greatly appreciated.

    He is running Windows 7 Os on a laptop using reliable WiFi connection.

    Just because you can use Skype doesn't mean you can connect to everything. You might want to stop using WiFi if you are using it, and then contact your ISP and have them help you out in forwarding the ports necessary for the game. Those are going to be:

    Have you also had him, with his pc off the whole time, unplugged power to both modem and router?

    If this doesnt fix the issue outright, do it followed by a full reinstall.

    And no, a system restore doesnt' count. gotta go full install from scratch, full slow patch download.

    If a pc powercycles midpatch or a power surge occurs, it can hose up a patch. Not many times can you recover without a full install all over.

    My friend is still having this issue except with Windows 8.1. We've done everything the OP did and more and still nothing. She's reinstalled 6 times.

    Windows 8.1 isn't supported. That may be the source of the issue. Another thing your friend can try doing is a clean boot through msconfig. Disable antivirus/script blockers, firewalls, etc.

    (This goes to everyone reinstalling) When reinstalling, you HAVE TO DELETE THE FILES FROM YOUR MY GAMES FOLDER. Otherwise you're just adding more issue to the problem.
