Is PLD novus even worth getting?

I'm on my 4th day collecting ATMA and while I was lucky on the 1st day and picked up about 4 of them, I'm wondering at this point whether it's even worth it to collect all of them when most end game gear seems to be (from what I've read) better?

Is is worth it considering the new part of the quest that they're adding in the future? It seems like too much of a time sink when I could be putting more time into getting better gear.

I recommend doing at least a novus for your main job. If that's PLD then yes it's worth it.

At some point it could be BiS and will always be close to BiS.

I don't currently use my Novus but it's set up for Coil3 progression Acc/parry.

you can craft your novus with the secondary stats you want. This makes it excellent in comparison to its ilvl equal, Conqueror. Currently BiS is the HA Sword, but since thats rather difficult to get it is worth the Novus grind in the end. But it is a long, long grind.

It is a long grind that I decided I didn't want to do. Playtime is valuble to me, with RL responsibilities and all that. So I went the collection route and got me the token weapon/s.

it is totally worth it. i used to scoff at people with relics cause i raid but now i see how wrong i was lol what my current plan since HA is BiS is to simply mimic acc/crit on the sword, parry/det on the shield. i know they wont be as high as high allagan but since thats the goal and 2.38 has next relic (i hear) might as well be able to build up the BiS allocation

That is a good point. I think that if you have made it past the initial atma gathering, the books don't seem too rough. Then after that it's just a time sink, easier to do I suppose. I do not speak from experience, but if you have already started it, might as well finish it.

To date I has no Atmas....

If you have very limted time to play, get a soldiery weap. 3 weeks of capping tomes and doing daily/weekly marks and u got it.

Atma is the easy part btw....animus is far worse in terms of time sink and I can only imagine how bad novus is @800 myth/200 seals per alexandrite. Of course, all is possible to do slowly too.

You can actually do a daily quest that requires you to do ex roulette and you get an Alex map as a reward so with the 1 Alex a day plus any more you get from myth that part is not too bad, still a time sink though. The worst part of Novus is getting the high lvl materia, they can be expensive especially for the battle dance III and IV. You can easily spend a few million gil to buy all the materia to get your Novus.

The novus/animus grind was made easier by the increases to mythology in hunts and dungeons. However, atma is still the same. And even with the ease of accruing mythology, the grind for the novus is VERY long. In my opinion, the Burtgang is a fantastic weapon as is. And if you believe secondary stats are worth something, the stats on the burtgang are acceptable (accuracy and determination). The time it takes to either get lucky roll on an allagan tomestone in ST or get a static together and down T7... is likely much much faster than the novus route.


Here is my opinion on novus weapons:

Other than the atma earning phase, it is a deterministic process. Meaning, you grind 1500 myth, you buy a book. Kill some mobs. Find some fates (which are now easier than before). The Novus phase... same deal. Earn some myth, buy some maps. Do some expert roulette. Repeat 75 times, earn an i110 weapon.

If that is your cup of tea, than have at it. However, for the most part, SE has always had multiple paths for getting weapon upgrades. When the game first came out, Zenith were the only way to go. Then they came out with the Rowena weapons from clearing extreme primals. To be fair, zenith weren't all that hard to get, but back then, you needed to spend 2-3 weeks worth of mythology to get it.

Then with the next big patch, Leviathan weapons were a stepping stone for those that couldn't clear T5 and were still better than zenith weapons. And at the same time, you could either grind out your Novus or work on upgrading a weathered weapon. If they keep that up, in the next patch, they'll be a non-zodiac weapon equivalent as well.

When they change the atma requirement and make them less random, maybe I'll change my opinion. For every player that feels that getting atma wasn't too bad, there are probably two other players that cleared 300+ fates in a zone with no atma to show for it.
