Materia and Quarrying?

Hello, I might a little slow but I can't figure out how to bind a material to my equipment? could anybody help please?

Also what is quarrying? is that a different job or just under mining?

You need to hit level 19 in a DoH class that isn't Culinarian, then do the Waking the Spirit quest. Once you do that, you'll be able to meld materia to any gear that you can also repair. E.g., if your Leatherworker is high enough to repair a particular piece of leather gear (the repair class is listed on the gear's tooltip), you can switch to Leatherworker, right-click the gear in question and select "Meld," then select the materia you want to meld. You'll also need to have the appropriate grade of Carbonized Matter in your inventory (Carbonized Matter is basically the glue that holds materia on).

Quarrying is just another kind of mining. There are regular mining nodes (yellow picks on the minimap) and quarrying nodes (blue picks on the minimap). They hold different items, and you need an off-hand mining tool equipped to quarry, but otherwise they're effectively the same.
