What the hell, Shale Golem?!

Ok, so I did an Ixal beast tribe quest today that involved killing a Clay Golem to make a Shale Golem spawn, and then kill it to get a part. I decided to get a little exp as my 48 MNK, so I kill a Clay and fight the Shale that spawns. It's 43 and I'm 48, so I got 5 levels on him. Will be like punching a Ming vase. So I'm punching him and notice his HP's not gone down that much. Then he punches me and I quickly do the match. Six more punches like that, and I'm dead. I put up my buffs, try to stun and debuff him but he's landed four more blows and I'm down to 200 HP, so I split.

WHAT. THE. HELL? Is that thing supposed to be that hard? This is the kind of mob I expect from a peistskin map. I had to switch to my SMN to kill them. This is misleading. "The DoW/DoM section of this quest is suggest for 41 and over." If you mean over as in just 50, sure... O.o

I'm glad this mechanic is part of some of the beast tribe quests, because it means I'll be doing this often enough that I might actually remember the mechanic exists.

Ok, this would explain it. I'm just not using to this game requiring me to read anything in a long time. Now I know.

Are you sure you didn't have to use an item on him to take him down? There were a few quest's where you would be well above the monsters level but you needed to toss an item at it to de-buff the monster, or else it would take you out.

Happens when a lot of quests are basically copy/paste in order to give us the quantity needed But yeah, usually something requiring some kind of trigger is stated plainly in the text.

When I first read this I thought of Dragon age since I am playing it right now as we speak and Shale is in my party.
